This time Dave actually had to climb *into* the dumpster. Was it worth it?

you get such cool stuff in that dumpster. You may as well put up a sign asking people to place all electronic items like this in one specific corner for you to pick up later

Gutted, that would of been a nice find, I think it was something silly that was broken and the printer was dropped on it. a real shame that Dave.

I love how people just throw away expensive stuff. I once found a fully functional high end tube amplifier. Almost all of the electronic stuff i use comes from the trash including 2 microwave ovens, a huge stero system, a gamer pc and 2 laptops. I just cant undestand why someone just throws away this stuff.

I would either drill out or weld a post to the tamper proof screw.

My Latest Find In The Trash Is Two Sony Units. One Is An DAV-HDX589W And It Fully Works And The Other Unit I Found Is A RCD-W500C And It Fully Works Nothing Was Missing From The First Unit. And The Only Thing Missing From The Second Unit Is Two Small Nobs On The Front Of The Unit That Go To The ( <--"AMS"--> ) This Is How It Looks With Out The Two Book Ends Just This <--"AMS"-->

I'm surprised you haven't come across 'tamper-proof' screws before!?

I used a UPS that didn't charge in my car as a 240V inverter! I still need to bypass the cut-off timer.

The computer store here has shelves outside, where people leave computer equipment they don't want. Recently, I snagged a Viewsonic VE510b LCD monitor. When I hooked it up, it would make a zapping sound, and cut out. It turned out to be a bad solder joint in the P.S. It took me about 10 minutes to take it apart, and another 5 to put it back together. The actual repair took about 10 seconds :)

Make all six into a photo frame or 3x3 for playing movies or games. Maybe running from a Raspberry Pi computer.

Whenever I encounter those one way screws (big Goodwill/Thrift store hunter), I'll take a 1/4" or 4mm allen key (depending on my driver) and Dremel and grind it down to exactly the slot width. Then I lean into the driver while turning, and I get enough torque to really force the initial grip. After that, depending on the thread tolerance, it's just a matter of maintaining downward force while turning. Key is to have a slot that fits close to exact, thus grabbing those torque points off center.

With the small monitors that I salvage, I use them for previews when i do a multi-cam edit, having each monitor display each video layer for reference.

"under a Xerox Phaser thing I didn't bother getting" - if that was one of the solid-ink models, I'd have thrown any amount of monitors back in the dumpster and take that one instead. Those things make brilliant photo prints, but unfortunately they cost an arm and a leg if purchased new. That would have been nice to investigate and probably repair.
