How To Tame Lox In Valheim! A Taming Guide For Lox

In this video I'll be covering how to tame lox in Valheim! You can consider this a full guide to taming the lox found in the plains biome. Lox can be used for meat and pelt, but right now they can't currently breed with each other. Hopefully this will change in the future!

Lox can now breed if you feed them cloudberries. It was in the new update. And you can ride lox too.

I managed to sneak a wall around four lox that spawned directly behind my house and then through both barley and cloud berries in. I only got one notification that a "Lox was tamed" but when I went in they had all been tamed. :D

If you could ride them I'd take one for each boss fight. Wonder if they have levels like other animals/enemies

Corrections: All tamable animals will tame to 33% with every food type they eat. What makes it 'take longer' is the taming % ticks up over time to a max of 33% with one bit of food. If you leave the area, they enter stasis and pause at whatever % they were at when you left. Thus why it appears to take a 'long time' to tame animals. But in fact it don't take much time at all if you stay with in render of the animals you're taming. Just throw in a full stack of food and stay with in render. You'll soon be spammed with the "animal tamed." messages.
Also bonus: throwing in a full stack of whatever food you want (meat for wolves, berry's for boars, etc) after they tame they will also right off start breeding. (Lox don't breed atm fyi)
I did this with a set of three boars while I stayed in the area making a dock. The day wasn't even half over by the time all three finished taming, and then I started hearing them squealing with three new babies in the pen... and then another 3 once the breeding cooldown ticked off... and that resumed until the stack of food ran out.

Cloudberries can also be used to tame lox and are super easy to obtain where the lox are.

They are very effective at killing Fuling's and other types of mobs. Just kite the mobs you want to kill into a herd of Lox's and watch the fun. I use the for farming black metal.

I didn't even trap mine, just threw cloudberries and ran away to a safe place, worked for me!

Taming these is easy enough you don't need a pen or a trap. They don't see well so you can sneak up to a herd and drop some cloudberries or grains then leave. If you stay within a reasonable sight distance the whole herd will belong to you before long.

Your trouble will begin once they're tame if you allow other enemies to bother them. The bugs are particularly bad as they can sting your lox over and over evading its retaliation but any enemy they see will result in the structure you built to contain them being absolutely wrecked. Build yourself a great big barn with high walls inside of another structure of walls such as a castle if you want to keep these safe for sure.

If left out of a pen, once tamed, will they still break your structures and or plants like they did before they were tamed?

stone is absolutely NOT enough to contain them until they calm down. Iron is a must.
P.s.: do one at a time. Their dmg to structures is intense.

if you're having problems with walls breaking, you can also just dig a pit and harpoon the lox and pull it in

just to let ever one know theres a mod that lets u tame lox's called lox breeding so if u like mods give it a look and while im on the topic of mods there's also one that lets tamed animals pull carts call beasts of burden

I wonder if just having them in a pen that happens to be a barley farm would work. Would they graze on the crop once it's fully grown and keep fed?

I want some guard lox and I want to be able to ride them, have them pull carts, etc.
