im really glad i watched this. ive been producing for 3 years now. about a year ago i was really stoked on my ability. i thought i was ready to start actually releasing. i found pretty quickly that that was not the case, so i worked hard on boosting my skills. however, i started to realize just how much better the pros are. i hit that valley like 2 weeks ago. it's been hard. for 3 years i was in ableton every day and now it's been about a week since i opened it up. it is truly a valley of despair. I've been contemplating just saying fuck it. but also, i dont wanna say fuck it. when im not lost in the valley, making music is the most fun thing in my life. i have a goal i want to achieve. yes music is supposed to be fun, but also, sometimes you have to strive to achieve a goal. my personal goal is nothing crazy. i want to release an ep on a label in my genre. that is my goal. it seems insurmountable in this valley, but i need to keep moving forward. thanks for this video.

One needs a whole lot of courage to face the truth about oneself. The truth mirror is usually really really painful to a majority of people’s ego. They’d rather stay in sweet denial than face a bitter truth😬

Thank you for always giving free game for so many years Justin! I really needed this been in the valley sense covid and finally feel like I'm getting out of the valley and you are 100 percent correct in the fact that you are just in an endless cycle of doing the same stuff, going back to the fundamentals of not just the technical side of music but the artistry and my why as a musician, has helped this so so much! I now have direction and a vision and I don't feel like I need to rush out releases like early on in my career! Much love for cosmic forever and always! 🐙

I've hit that wall. I've been at this for years and I am overfull with knowledge, techniques, plugins, but now I'm just absolutely lost for ideas that make me feel inspired. And the harder I try, the LESS I get done. It sucks. I'm sure I'll break out of it at some point.

Haha the valley - right where we are. Had a small label signing after 1.5 years - streams continuously rising, had a few gigs...Now things don't move forward anymmore - faced with many scams of the industry, stuck on Spotify and feeling like things just get harder and harder :D Great explanation

What if the valley of despair lasts long, like 4 or 5 years although you are making a progress in production

i've been using notation software and midi sounds for years. I've dabbled in producing with various DAWs but I'm flat broke. Safe to say I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to producing

Can u please make videos on how to build systems. This is what I find very difficult.
A production and release system.
Do you have like a template for a spreadsheet or something I can use? I would really love help with this area.

The lack of "hit the like button" story saddens me :( that's my favorite part.

Came for the wisdom, stayed for the wild and wacky stories. (Not really, staying for the wisdom ;)

Making music is not that hard. I am 46 I got talent discovered at my childhood and I am in love with music. I am a seaman also. Dont have regular time spend in the studio. But I built my dream studio on my own with pro level acoustic treatment, learnt essentials. Also I had another dream to make videos for my songs. I learnt 3D software. Now I can use UE and Reallusion software. All these happened within 2-3 years. I had 3-4 months to spend at home and doing stuff each year due to my job. But I did it 😄 still earning nothing but all those were for my passion not for the people.
