One of the best things that Walz does is talk about us and our neighbors, and what we want for people we know and trust. He brings the message back home. It increases the feeling of authenticity, because those are the people that we care the most about. Empathy is real, but it's impossible to maintain at the same level of intensity the more people you add to the circle. So if you talk about things too broadly, it does not invoke the same feelings of empathy that "bringing it home" does.
