50% of folks will not need long-term care. However, about 15% ( According to a Vanguard study ) will have expenses above $250, 000.Planning for any contingency is wise for that considerable downside risk. Thanks, 90 Days From Retirement!

When you did the video on Medicare and Cancer I started thinking about this exact thing. And yes my mentality has always been that won't happen to me, but I always have said we are healthy until we are not. But with that being said the wheels start turning in my head. if something did happen and I live alone would my children take care of me. I always believed in saving for the future. It comes faster than we think. My son has always preached to me "Dad don't leave any money behind, spend it all" My daughter on the other hand would say "I wonder how much money dad will leave us" Of course she was spoiled. So last month my wife had a birthday. I surprised her with a popcorn machine (Great Northern Popcorn Company) The one on wheels, even has a third button for keeping the popcorn warm. She loves it. Of course it does keep me from having to go to the movie theater as her reason for going was always for the popcorn. Good Friday we boiled crawfish, wife also did a jambalaya. My daughter loved the popcorn machine. So what did I do. Well I bought another one. I did not tell anyone. I just covered up the box and put it in the garage. Saturday we will be having a birthday party for my youngest son turning 18. I am going to surprise her with it. But it got me to thinking and wondering my reasoning. It's not a special occasion for her and her birthday is months away. Could it be that if something were to happen to me I would want her to feel guilty if she didn't step in to help. I would hope that's not why I did it, but now I am not so sure. Of course she does have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and she lives a 100 miles away so I want to say that is why I did it, so when they look at it everyday they will think of me. Not so sure what my thought process was. I am going to have to think about it some more. But regardless I doubt any of it would matter to her as she will have her very own popcorn machine. Continued thoughts and prayers for your mom. Great Video.

What is the deadline after my 65th birthday to sign up for Medicare? If I sign up for an advantage plan, do I have a year from sign up date to switch to supplement plan? I really appreciate your help.
