For travel outside of the US or on a cruise, I think some companies offer travel medical insurance that you can purchase prior to traveling. The next time I travel outside the US, I plan on purchasing that type of temporary policy for peace of mind.

with Humana PPO plans, members have to pay foreign medical expenses upfront, then ask for reimbursement upon arrival home. reimbursement for foreign expenses will be no more than what original Medicare would reimburse for domestic medical expenses. members are responsible for charges beyond what is reimbursed by the plan. As always, check the details of the contracted health plan that you signed and agreed to. Best practice: check the plan detail BEFORE you sign it.

My wife is a US citizens living overseas who turns 65 in a few months. Does she have to be physically present in the US to apply? Will she have coverage overseas (not for travel but for actual long-term residence.)

I am going on a cruise n September...I will be flying to Spain and going on a 12 night cruise...The best piece of mind with NO DEDUCTABLE is to buy Travel insurance...I bought a plan for the 12 days for $328 that cover me and my wife for all expenses including air vac up to a limit of $200, 000 total. DO NOT BUY Cruise trip insurance...get a travel insurance plan independent of any cruise line...

I just checked with United and they said you are only covered for the first two months outside the country, not six months
