Do You Know Your Tire Pressure?

When's the last time you checked your motorcycle tire pressure?

Having your tires inflated to the proper pressure is one of the most important pieces of routine maintenance you can do.

Low tire pressure results in a large contact patch which can cause heavy steering, sloppy handling, premature tire wear, excess friction, increased heat, and worse fuel economy.

That's why it's important to know your tire pressures. But don't trust one of those cheap pencil tire pressure gauges - they are notoriously unreliable.

If you're looking for a solid aftermarket TPMS, check out the Fobo Bike 2. It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth to your Apple or Android phone and gives you real time tire pressures and alerts. Check out the full install in the linked video!

When me n my friends all got bikes in our late teens to early twenties, I was shocked when I rode their bikes and told them “your tire pressure is lower than ideal, go put some air in them” and they told me “it feels normal to me”. I have high standards because I’m not the best rider but I’m gifted in terms of having feeling for what’s going on under me. But if I’m not the best rider and have this level of feeling for the bike, if u can’t feel what’s happening under u, u need more seat time. For me, 2-3 psi felt so wrong it took all my confidence away, as soon as I made the correction I could ride to my limit with confidence and a smile again.

The better option than paying for that Tpms is just to top up the air in your tyres regularly at the gas station. It'll still be cheaper than that tpms' upfront cost even after several years

the "cheap tire pencil gauge" still works fine though.. my dad use it for decades and we still got the right tire pressure in all our car's tires..

Pencil gauges arnt notoriously unreliable. Infact most industry tests have shown they are pretty good. That is provided they are well maintained and used appropriately, just like any tool. Now if you buy one from ali express or whatever sure, but thats the case for cheaply made digital gauges too. A decent one, maintained and used properly will work fine. However devices like the advertised one are more convenient.

It’s a feeling, on my MOD 2 training I literally said ‘tyres pressure is low do you have a tyre pump’ and low and behold the pressure were low, I was riding the other day, felt weird and like my bike was stuck on rails, check the pressure, about 4 psi under, a low pressure will feel bad, you should fall into corners not have to force it at all, that’s likely why most bikes do not have it

My chinese 125cc has front and rear tire pressure monitoring system and on the screen I can see exact value - It's my favourite feature, quite surprised it have one and Ducati doesn't :)

Well Zontes actually pairs you with TPMS as standard on the 350 line ups. How nice of them.

*In the Philippines we just kick the tires to know if it's soft or not.*

Most new features that came to motorcycles this year are stuff that cars have enjoyed for about 20 years

New tech tends to be developed for cars because the industry and costomer base is larger and then it gets adapted to motorcycles

30, 000 dollars for a motorcycle, whew! I paid 3, 500.00 for mine, 45 years later it runs great, more smiles per mile.

My moto morini that cost 5k has tpms. Its only in kpa and idk what that is but it has it. Not knocking the add on, i appreciate companies that at least give you the option to update your vehicles.

Always use Metal valve stems when using a screw on TPMS

I rely on kicking or punching the tyre to gage its pressure 😂😢, I own a corolla 98

On Android you have to let the app track your location, but I can attest that this system works well. I force stop the app when I'm not riding.
