The Non-Canon Expert explains why Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader conspired to kill the son of the future Imperial Grand Moff Tarkin, Admiral Garoche Tarkin, as a way to benefit from the services of his father going forward!

This is a Legends story for Vader that was seen in the 2011 Legends comic entitled "Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Lost Command". I hope that you enjoy it!

So that's why tarkin was so black hearted and cold cause of his son being killed basically sidious created another monster like sidious & vader

6:17 I disagree, I don't think she underestimated the light within him but used the WORST way possible to bring out the light. Thinking of Padme might seem light at first, but to Vader specifically, it brought him the MOST feelings of pain and anguish that he ever could feel. Thinking of her only brings him pain after what happened, what he blamed himself for. She shouldn't have used her to bring the light out of him, it was never going to work. Only one of Padme's children could bring her up and not totally destroy Vader's mentality, but even them bringing her up would likely not be a step for him towards the light, unless brought up in a very specific way.

Honestly, the moments when Vader had visions of Padmé in the awesome Legends comic broken down in this video get to me every single time. What happened to Anakin Skywalker was truly such a sad and terrible thing, and I find it rather cruel that both Palpatine and Vader plotted to kill Tarkin's son. But Sidious is Sidious and Vader wasn't redeemed yet so what do you expect lol! :)

As raw and entertaining as this is, it's really over the top imo

Vader gets ambushed ALOT by a person who has no idea he's being hunted because the plot to kill him was concieved DURING a rescue operation to save him which he also didn't know or care about because HE had already betrayed them first which they didn't know about until after they betray him...

And this twisted knot of seemingly petty squabble somehow produces a situation capable of unmasking, restraining and almost killing the all powerful Darth Vader whom can't complete the mission without comitting near suicide to get at a non-force user that's in the same room as him? And all it took for Vader to be pushed this far was for one of his admirals to find a hot chick he wants to get with...

It's well told though...

That may have been a legit suicide attempt by Darth Vader; it could have been that he sensed the love between the two of them, knew he had to kill them, and then tried to drop the place on himself in the process. The Dark Side doesn’t give its own up easily though.

The funny thing is, nowhere in this comic is it clear that Tarkin loved his son; only that Palpatine and Vader thought he did. That's why TV Tropes still considers Tarkin a Complete Monster when having a loved one would normally disqualify him.

Man, I don't get how they have that ONE chance to finally kill Vader and end this madness but instead chose to keep him alive anyway, incredibly stupid.

When I read the title I was wondering if I missed something, since I read the Tarkin novel and theres no word about a son there. Well this is legends ^^

In these comics, it always looks like Palpatine is taking a dump.

Well damn that explains a lot as to why Tarkin in his doctrine and conversations with sidious never even flinched. As Alderran was destroyed or as the empire enacted his doctrine with extreme prejudice. In the end he resolved on his path with Sidious and Vader. He was the perfect man for it and only his son stood in his way from truly embracing the empire.

Tarkin's son was the only thing that kept his humanity intact. But like with Vader, Palpatine took that from him to turn him into a cold blooded killer.

Weird. You’d think with Tarkins advanced age funding a suitable replacement like his son might be a priority for palpatine. He plotted to kill him before even knowing he was a traitor
