He failed to save his mother, he failed to save his wife, but he was not going to fail to save his son!

You’ll never convince me that Rise of Skywalker is canon. Palpatine died right here. Period.

This is the only ending that I’ll ever accept.

Fun fact, if you have subtitles turned on, after Vader turns back to the light, the subtitles will label him as Anakin Skywalker. Cool little thing some people probably wouldn’t notice.

That feeling when you realize Anakin finally had the power to save the ones he loved...

Palpatine made the mistake of thinking there was only one Jedi Knight in that room

When Darth Vader says “no” repeatedly, I feel like that is Anakin coming back to his senses and realizing every wrong thing he has ever done.

I always love how Vader picks up Palpatine and slowly carries him to the railing as if he's lugging a giant TV and throwing it over the balcony as a prank.

I love how Luke was continuously told that he had to kill vader to become a jedi master and complete his training, but Luke knew that there was always good in his father deep down. He killed vader not by a lightsaber strike, but with love and compassion, and in that way, brought his father back to life.

What I love about this scene is, even though his face is covered you can almost see the emotion that's coming out of him..

Anakin finally rising up and putting an end to his abuser to save his child from the same fate. Utterly beautiful and heartbreaking.

What's beautifully ironic is that Palpatine was right. Luke didn't understand the power of the dark side. He did not know that Palpatine could fry him with lightning created by pure hatred. But, Palpatine didn't understand the power of the light side. He did not know that Luke could turn Anakin back to the light by loving him and showing him compassion. This scene shows the power of the dark side to destroy and hate, but the greater power of the light to redeem and love.

After rewatching the films, I now see this as the moment Anakin was truly free. He was the property of a mechanic as a boy. A tool for the Jedi order, and an attack dog for Palpatine, he never had true freedom until he saved his son, and while he would only experience a few minutes of it, Anakin Skywalker had discovered true freedom, something I believe he deserved after all he has gone through, and makes this ending even more satisfying.

Palpatine could have vaporized Luke instantly with his lightning, but being the sadist he is, he wanted to slowly torture Luke.

The first time I ever watched this as a kid, my heart broke into a million pieces hearing Vader’s broken and labored breathing at 2:13

I always viewed the Emperor's failure to foresee Vader's intervention to reflect his inability to understand love. He had supreme confidence in his abilities of prescience, yet he never anticipated Vader saving Luke. The concept of illogical, unconditional, self sacrificial love was so alien to him he could never have appreciated the power of the father-son bond between Luke and Vader. The villain is defeated by his own arrogance and the failures inherent to his worldview. Perfect.

I think that Anakin here finally saw that he had this one chance to save someone he loved at last. He failed Shmi, he failed Padme. But his son? Not this time. Beside, behind that mask, it was obvious that in Luke, he saw the product of his deep love for Padme, and he was not going to have to sit and watch as that inch of love and happiness was about to utterly perish under his eyes. This final moment was truly Anakin's ultimate act of redemption.
