Thanks I've been using my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th finger to fret that A shape. It's difficult to change chord positions and swap back to that shape.

You can easier do B like with your pinkie, ring and middle finger holding A and bare with finger that is left (i dont know its name)

I'm definitely going to try this way you've shown. But what about as an alternative, not playing on the A string, using first finger on high e string, and A shape for 2nd, 3rd and 4th string. It's still not as straining as a full barre.

Yes, I can play b like that decently, but I also want to learn it the normal way for changing from a to b for example is easier with the normal finger formation, but the b jus doesn't sound so good.

Jethro Tull - ‘Up The Pool’ has a Barred B shape (capo @ 7) that I just can’t do. I know the rest of the song.. just that damn B shape.
