Man, thanks for sharing this Andy! I love using this technique and teach it to ALL of my in-person students! So many beginner guitarists struggle to get from open chords to barre chords and this technique is exactly the key to getting there MUCH more quickly! Groovy and very easy to understand video :)

You explained this really well. I remember earning these chords a long time ago. For anyone beginning out there, if you practice regularly it does pay off! Great video

Is it just me or did this end rather suddenly?

The abolute hardest part in building muscle memory for E shaped arre chords like F, is that my second finger always wants to go where my 3rd and 4th are going, i.e. to the A and D string. It just does not want to move to the G string. I tried to put down the barre first, which helps a tiny bit.

Quite helpful but I’m still having a lot of trouble changing to barre chords quickly. If I do manage to get the chord shape right it usually has a lot of feet buzz and is really annoying. The chords I’m trying to play are G E minor and B minor

This is exactly what I’m struggling with right now and it’s driving me nuts. Thank you for this.

To be honest so far from my guitar journey, i didn't adapt the knowledge right away. The skills just came out of nowhere. For example recently I was struggling with strumming patterns and after playing this one song, suddenly I don't struggle with strumming anymore. Turns out when the things you do suddenly feels natural, the sound and the techniques will automatically follow. But still it takes me a lot of practice 😄

Great video, Andy. I've been looking for some instruction on this subject for a little while and stumbled upon this! When playing barre chords, I have a tendency to place fingers 2, 3, 4 first followed by the barre?

Thanks for the video! A question: normally, when you change chords, the strings continue sounding between chords, so the change sounds natural. When changing to a barre chord, the index finger stops that sound and the change is noticeable with a stop in between. How do you change chords from any to a barre chord without that muting second? Do you place the index after placing the others? Thanks for your help!

Hey Andy, love your videos. Do you have any advice for barring the. E string with your thumb like Hendrix. I find it more natural but I’m struggling with a nylon string one since it’s so thick and I can’t get my hands around it anyways
