GUYS STOP THE UNECESSARY (but prob old) HATE! the title of becoming a geisha is to represent her outfit snd stuff, its also not cultural appropriation instead cultural appreciation, since it was made by a japsnese person and japanese people do not feel offended. What would she need to put in her title? Because "Cosplaying as geisha" seems a bir disrespectful enough. People's jobs arent cosplays, this is simply a way to live out what its like to do geisha makeup and hair, and kimono!

Regarding the memoirs movie: The film & book for sued by the original woman it was supposed to be based off of. Mitose is her name. She wrote her own book in response. Telling the real story.


The movie and book disparrpaged and smeared her good name and her profession. It’s sickening.

I just learned about the negative space "w" on the nape of the neck being a way to distinguish maiko (juniors to geisha is I understood correctly) and geisha in class today. Thanks to @dvinationtarot for sharing this video and as intense as this comment section is, also grateful to have everyone share and correct what they know of the culture and origins for anything anyone might've misspoken :)
