I just bought a geisha painting. This has been the best explanation I've found. Awesome stuff just found your channel.

There's a lot of incorrect information here. I appreciate the effort but the information given will be confusing and misleading for most people who are using this as an introduction to the profession, you're even using images of Geiko while describing Maiko. I would be happy to go through them point by point if you would like, but one I definitely want to touch on and have seen people say over and over again is that there are less than 200 people practicing this profession, it's not true, that number would more correlate with Kyoto, there are about 200 women practicing there, but all through Japan, the number is closer to 1, 000.

It was short, yet concise and easy to understand.Thank you for the wonderful video.
In Japan, there is a term used to describe geisha: "You sell your art, but you don't sell yourself."There is no end to performing arts.
And again, the number of women who aim to become geisha is decreasing dramatically.I think more and more people are not familiar with geisha in the first place.I don't want to let go of this wonderful tradition.
Excuse me for coming from Japan.

Coming from a platform of curiosity I’ve been captivated by Japanese women of all their different forms, interest in Japanese culture sustains a deep fascination with the distinction between Asian people as a generalized population and how an Island country like Japan stands out due to their rich history. The evolution of Geisha and Maiko post edo period by far is appropriately to this day shrouded in mysterious revelation hardly available for scrutiny by consumer behavior, as to the controversy surrounding decline in the profession there hopefully is still demand in Japan for aspiring women to practice a unique art for the growth and development of both the rigorous training and an appreciation to experience their reputation as world renowned entertainers.

Though the narration is not but, there are some critical confusions in the images used.

1:31 The women are not related to Geisha at all.
3:03 Rising sun flag shouldn't be used at this context. it's only used by former Japan military in late 19c to early 20c, and not by Japanese Government. The flag may offense and insult some people in the region occupied by Japan Military during WWII.
4:25 The drawing is Chinese, but not Japanese.
6:10 These are not traditional kimono, and it also contains Korean Jeogori.

It isn't that historically accurate. The scene where mother is hitting her with the stick would NEVER have happened because any blemish, bruise, or scar is going to lower the purchase value of these women.

Mineko Iwasaki's earnings record was broken in 2018 by famous geiko Satsuki-san who earned first place honors seven years in a row.

I think the channel should slow down a little bit the pace of the narrative. I was watching it and the felling that it gave me is that the narrator was running to finish it as soon as he could. At least 15/20 min would be considerable to give a proper explanation, even more when it is about Geisha, not to mention a few incorrect information presented as others already mentioned.

Knew most of the info. Sad to hear there are so few. If I was a young girl I would love to be Geisha❤

They still exist today. In fact, they are taking off. They are called vtubers. Instead of extreme makeups they get a live2D model. They sing, dance, play games and interact with their audience. Same thing, different technology.

Remember, there's a lot of difference between GEICO, gecko, gekko, and geiko!

Never ceases to amaze me how japanese can turn any thing, job, profession into something seemingly honorable and art like. For example escort for rich and wealthy is portrayed as honorable and misteryous. They are excorts with fancy makeup thats it.

The use of overlapping graphics while trying to listen to the narration is really distracting.
