Sooo the robots in the movie "Ghost in the shell" represented Maikos!! Theres a scene where you can hear the bell sound as she is walking...nice!!

I heard that a young woman dressed as a Maiko or Geisha who walks in public as discrete as possible would be a real Maiko/Geisha. A woman dressed as one who doesn't mind having her picture taken or maybe even poses for a tourist. Well those are Japanese girls who like attention..

Although as a Niigata resident for six years, I learned that Geisha/Geiko are called “Geigi” in Niigata. So I guess there is another term for them in Japanese dialects..

I wondered what the diffrence was. I assumed the maiko's were in training to become gaiko but I wasn't sure. This video explained it very well. I love how many videos you have on geisha. I’m learning so much! I always thought the bell sound came from the hair ornaments, not the shoes- that’s SO COOL.
I’m curious. If a maiko is a young person training to become a geisha, what happens if an adult wants to become a geisha? Can an adult begin geisha training? Do they have a certain names? Do they skip over all the visual differences that maiko have?
