It's truly insane how Russia's economic potential was mislead so much

I don't think Russia would dissolve into that many nations. The russian people have strong national identity, the only scenario i could think of is losing parts of Karelia back to Finland, southern states like Chechnya break free and the Russian Far East would go independent as well. (and Siberia is a questionmark) but most of "European Russia" and parts of "Asian Russia" would stay intact.

It's a very interesting theory and very detailed. However, it assumes that other nations won't try and take advantage of the situation in some way.

Realistically, the only nations Finland would openly ally with from Russian implosion would be either independent Ingria and/or Karelia.

Considering Putin's ambitions of the restoration of the Soviet Union, it would be extremely ironic.

I used to wonder about this topic and came up with this scenario:
- Siberia is given independence to drain the new Russia of its natural resources.
- The Russian republics are given choices for their future, either closer to or more autonomous from Russia, merging fully with Russia or neighbouring countries, or becoming independent
- The remaining Russian land becomes a new country which has a democratic puppet government that has close ties to the West implemented by NATO.

Possible but unlikely because Russia won't fracture along provincial lines, but most likely along ethnic lines. This would see Chechnya split because they already tried. China would like to take Asian Russia because they get the water resources which they already tried to buy, and would get direct access to the Arctic and resources.

If this does happen, imagine how wild it would be to have lived through the collapse of the Soviet Union, then the collapse of the Russian Federation a few decades later. You would essentially have witnessed the collapse of a first world country. That would shift the balance of power waaaay heavily in the favor of Western Powers. Countries like Iran, Syria and China would have lost a huge frenemy.

Probably a very real possibility, although I think Far East Russia would be raided by China and Japan without a second thought and before they knew what hit them. China would gobble up Manchuria and Japan would take the Kuril Islands.

I feel like there would be more than 8 new countries, seeing that Russia has several Republics within it and several autonomous regions in the eastern half of the country, and it wouldn't be divided based off Russian rulers cause the Russian elite is what got them in this mess

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that this would happen one day. But the tragedy of it all. Is worse than I thought. Wow. Makes me worry about the next couple of decades.
