Hetfield can play it live just as fast and faster than the album recording.

Me: wow, I can believe James would speed up the track and make everyone believe he could down pick that fast
James: *plays faster than the album live*

This guy literally said “I can’t do it so it must be impossible”

Honestly I'm beginning to think this guy is just a big troll

Well it doesn't help that you're not playing the riff correctly

Respectfully, this does not sound right.

That’s a complete myth. Hetfield recorded all the rhythm parts at album speed in standard tuning. (With the exception of Thingy, it’s in D standard)

Little do we know, spacetime is magically sped up at every Metallica concert

James actually plays the chords and all the notes of the first riff on the e string

Im pretty sure they did a slower version to make it sound tighter because tracking back then would change the pitch post production (see the tuning on Ride the lightning). They also tuned a little lower than E so when it sped up, it would come back to E tuning

At their age now, they are playing it even faster during live performance.

My favorite song from this album was disposable heroes because i loved how fast and heavy it sounded

I don’t think they do it anymore but they actually used to play the song at 115% speed live. Just shows how much of a beast James is

I can literally hear James say, " hold my beer!" as he rips out his axe and shreds this riff no problem!

I don’t get why downstrokes is hard?? When I first learned to play I used to downstroke everything. Then when I learned with a teacher he made me alternate my picking.. that was hard 😅 but eventually learned and it made me faster

They sped it up by like 5 or 10 bpm, but they did that on Ride the Lightning and Kill em’ all too. But 5 or 10 bpm doesnt really make THAT much of a difference and they can indeed play it faster than the album version when they play it live, so…
