In 2018 it was revealed that James was a few minutes late feeding one of his dogs. In an interview with Loudwire, James' dog "Snooky" said she couldn't believe the Metallica frontman would disrespect her like that. She has not spoken to James since the incident, but dogs do not speak so it is impossible to know if this lone incident is responsible for Snooky's grudge against Mr. Hetfield.

James had the unfortunate luck to have to sit next to me for an entire flight from San Francisco to London in 1986. He, and everyone else in the band could not have been nicer to everyone they dealt with. While waiting in the immigration/customs line Cliff asked what I was doing later in London and I said, probably just heading to SoHo. Kirk chimed in with, "It's a small town, I'm sure we'll bump into you." About 10 hours later I was walking though SoHo, and from a black London taxi I hear, "Stop!" It does, and Cliff and Kirk hop out and say, "Told you we'd see you later." Cliff passed away a couple of weeks later.

I’ve never met any metalhead that doesn’t like James Hetfield. Even if you aren’t the biggest Metallica fan, James deserves all the respect and love he gets. An important part of Metal history and just music history in general.

Are we not gonna talk about the time James caught on fire and had to go to the hospital and Axl Rose refused to take the stage because he didn’t want to be upstaged? Also, who cares what Axl Rose thinks, he’s the possibly the biggest jerk in Rock music History.

Bro I’ve met James before he is just a genuinely nice person. He didn’t act like he was superior, didn’t say anything rude, nothing. He just had a nice normal conversation with me and gave me a high five. Super cool guy

I personally met James and Lars at a bar in Soho after the Black Album concert at Madison Square Garden. He was super cool and layer back. He actually bought a round drinks for everyone in the bar. Lars on the other hand is a different story. Metallica is one of the best Metal bands ever!

The perks of being James Hetfield is you don’t have to stand anyone but Lars… and the perks of being Kirk or Rob is you only have to stand James and Lars.

James seems to be a perfectionist when it comes to the music and in addition to being an artist, he's also a business man who doesn't tolerate any nonsense when it comes to the band's work. He's similar to that boss that the employees can't stand, but gets the job done. I'm amazed that he's still cranking out solid hard driving music whether you think Metallica sold out or not. I think it's just the band growing and maturing. Isn't that what the Beatles did, growing, experimenting, going in new directions. i wouldn't be a fan if they were like Nickleback with songs that all sound the same; I admire Metallica's range and scope. I find it amazing that after 40 years, they're still cranking out great music on every work and I don't care who likes him or who doesn't like him as long as I like the music. James and even Lars have taken a page out of Ricky Nelson's Garden Party - ya can't please everyone so ya gotta please yourself. Love the Lux Aeterna, have 72 Seasons on preorder and I'm counting the days until April. Who the fuck could hate on this guy? His saintlike humility is eclipsed only by his talent and incredible music. Anyone who has a problem with James Hetfield really just has a problem with themselves.
