Neil deGrasse Tyson (US: /dəˈɡræs/ or UK: /dəˈɡrɑːs/; born October 5, 1958) is an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator. Tyson studied at Harvard University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Columbia University. From 1991 to 1994, he was a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. In 1994, he joined the Hayden Planetarium as a staff scientist and the Princeton faculty as a visiting research scientist and lecturer. In 1996, he became director of the planetarium and oversaw its $210 million reconstruction project, which was completed in 2000. Since 1996, he has been the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. The center is part of the American Museum of Natural History, where Tyson founded the Department of Astrophysics in 1997 and has been a research associate in the department since 2003...

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA /ˈnæsə/) is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government responsible for the civil space program, aeronautics research, and space research.

NASA was established in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), to give the U.S. space development effort a distinctly civilian orientation, emphasizing peaceful applications in space science. NASA has since led most American space exploration, including Project Mercury, Project Gemini, the 1968–1972 Apollo Moon landing missions, the Skylab space station, and the Space Shuttle. NASA supports the International Space Station and oversees the development of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System for the crewed lunar Artemis program, Commercial Crew spacecraft, and the planned Lunar Gateway space station. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program, which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management for uncrewed NASA launches.

Couldve just said that NASA gets 40 cents for every $100. Can I get my PhD now? 🤣

Very much agree. It always infuriates me when I see the tired, moronic argument that money should be taken from NASA to "fix issues on Earth." If you want to take money from other places, fine; but the nation that stops doing science is the nation that has already fallen.

NASA's ROI for the shit they've invented is staggering.

If yall looked at the military budget yall would vomit. Most of that money is literally wasted. And the amount that's used is just sitting in hangers doing absolutely nothing.
And it's even more disgusting when you realize we SELL weapons too.

The only issue with the American tax system is our need to control global defense and not giving more military responsibility to our allies.

Their budget as of 2023 is 25.4 billion and the federal budget deficit is 1.4 trillion as of 2023

I’m a old school NASA nerd, but throwing gobs of money at something doesn’t necessarily fix it. NASA is probably trying to do more with less, but who doesn’t love a $600 hammer? The political swings are pretty bad too. NASA needs consistent support and professional management.

Neil saying 4/10 instead of 2/5 is hilarious.

That 4% ON TOP OF all the rest of the taxes we pay a watch pissed away is substantial

I don't like Neil, but I really like that last thing he said. "it's the only thing that's got us thinking about tomorrow"

I wish that for one year the budget for the military minus staff pay into science, education and discovery.

I would have absolutely no problem paying a 10% tax providing we the people have the right to vote where our money goes. it would be a list of things the FED spends our money on, a checklist. military borders infrastructure schools what have you we would all have the ability to vote on where our money goes. and if enough people don't vote for something it goes away.

There's a lot of products we use on a regular basis that derived from NASA.

Well, any budget coming cloxe to 1% of a country's budget is huge. Esp. if its the US. Its rare that a single body gets that much money.
However I consider this money well spent.❤
