*Military budget quietly sidling out of the chat*

NASA's budget is less than the bribes a typical politician gets

Definitely. NASA's annual budget is less than what the military spends in a week, but has still provided us with incredible technological innovation and discovery. If the government actually cared they absolutely could solve several problems the American people face without having to pull a single dollar from NASA. The problem isn't that there is not enough to go around, it's that it's not enough to satisfy the greed of the few who have the lion's share of wealth.

"Wouldn't even get to the ink"

Damn... What a line

Besides NASA is the only government agency that consistently suceeds at their objective besides the IRS.

It's literally going to take an asteroid wiping out an entire continent before they will ever take NASA's budget seriously

Love how he says four tens of a percent, as if 0.4% would be too hard to imagine for joe😂

NASA budget is around .48% of the US budget. If you had a $100 and you gave someone 48 cents of it that would be the equivalent. The US defense budget would be $12 dollars of it. Social Security would be $21 dollars.

To look at it in a absurd way imagine you just made $100 and your dependents show up.
The pensioners, diaabled and neets would get $21 dollars and told to go buy two meals at McDonald's.
The people charged with protecting you and your interest would get $12 and told to buy a box of 9mm or .556 (prices might be inflated now it's been a couple years since I last bought both).
NASA would get 48 cents and told "Go to Mars on that." When you can't even get a bus ride across town on it.

Again just a absurd way of looking at things.

NASAs budget is 58 million dollars per day. Don't get me started on the military budget

Yeah. I agree. The thing we absolutely suck at is "planning for tomorrow". We really should invest more on that.

Imagine if the DoD was as efficient at using their finding as NASA. We’d be a type 1 civilization by now

This is true of the Federal budget in general. A lot of the stuff people say we should cut (and Congress argues over actually cutting) is a literal drop in the bucket compared to (so-called) mandatory spending.

NASA is the closest thing the US government has to a trustworthy agency.

Most Americans think that NASA's budget is at about 6, 4%. It wasn't even that high during the race to the Moon when NASA's got 4, 4% of the federal budget in 1966. It never went that high again.
To think that NASA is this completely overfunded agency that should have its budget cut down is just insane. The US military spends more on coffee than NASA has for its R&D department.

I don’t even care about getting to Mars but their work in nuclear fusion I think is insanely important so yeah I’d double their budget

There's another NDT quote about the NASA budget that equates cutting their budget to save money to deleting a 1 page word document off your computer to save space.

I never would've been able to wrap my head around that number without that analogy.

Now imagine ISRO's budget and the results it's getting.

If NASA had the Military Budget for 10 years we could have colonies on The Moon, Mars, and have ships enroute to Colonize Titan.
