It's departments like NASA that make it possible for us all to have cable and cellphones and the weather channel... they're the people the take care of our satellites that allow us to connect internationally in every way currently available...

Military’s cut is 58%. If you cut that to just 50%, you can raise nasas to 1% (double it) and raise education to 10% (4% increase) and still have 3.5% of our nations budget to invest anywhere we want. Health care, housing, infrastructure, anything.

And the military would still have more than enough to start wars in foreign countries. All that would change is they would have to stop burning fuel to buy more fuel to justify their budget. Instead they would have to actually only have the amount of money they deserve allotted to them at a time.

Same thing when people say "Elon Musk should use his money to fix world hunger" - dozens of countries are working on doing just that, with a budget well beyond Elon Musk's net worth.

I would be happy to see the defense budget go down by 50% and give it all to NASA. NASA seems like a much better use of the money. Exploring the cosmos seems like a much better use of resources than developing weapons of death.

There´s a show on DMAX in Germany called SteelBuddies. They are buying the "old" stuff from the US Army in Europe. They buy generators for, lets say, 200€, never used. The Army paid 20.000$ but the same generators only in a non-camouflage colour costs 2000$ on the civil market.
