As a man in his 50s having worked since 18 having a wife & kid. Time is your most precious asset. You can get another car another house another TV. You can't get back time you wasted or missed.

I've been telling people for years now, "If I can't eat it or spend it... don't buy it for me." They eventually understood it.

We made a choice when raising our two daughters to stick with entertainment that didn’t involve television babysitting, among many other lifestyle choices. They learned to be creative, use their imagination and not need constant external stimulus like so many of their friends. Fast forward 29 years and our eldest is living in Costa Rica with her husband a very minimalist lifestyle as they can travel out of a few backpacks. Our youngest is, essentially, back country living and building a 25’ x 25’ geodesic dome to live in, wood heating and also very minimalistic. On the flip side we recently sold everything that wouldn’t fit in four large suitcases and moved to Mexico. That was 32 years of accumulation and home, cars etc. We have embraced this living style and new country but we have a long way to go beyond the physicality of the changes.

Our eldest, just today, thanked us for raising them the way we did as it opened up so many possibilities beyond the social expectations of friends and family as her and her sister are able to employ critical thinking skills without the trappings of those expectations that are the result of various external pressures.

Basically, we are the black sheep and we love our life with less, living slower and appreciating what we need vs what we want as we realize the want is often a result of being marketed to and bowing to those social pressures of accumulating stuff.

Issue with older generations not understanding. I'm in my 70's and it took me too damn long to get
off the "train" of wanting more stuff, keeping up with the Jones's. You're young and lucky you figured it out. The last 20 years have been the happiest, realizing I don't need anymore stuff!

Excellent video. I am 52 and found simple living in my 20’s. I am so grateful to have lived life with these principles. It has helped me in more ways than I can begin to express. Thank you for sharing your message with others.

The comment 'we are wrong all the time' made me instantly relaxed! I love it, it leaves all the room for not knowing, which keeps the mind open and the soul relaxed! Thank you for the sweet video.

I really resonate with a lot of what you are saying and live a simple life myself. I have noticed that I have a slightly different take on the "quality vs quantity" aspect of friendships. I have worked in service and bars for many years and I have really learned to love a casual friendship. I am a bartender twice a week (currently my only gig - thank god for low rent) and love seeing all the local regulars. I do not really hangout with these people when not at work but I love getting to see everybody and chat for a little while here and there and running into them in the streets. I do have a few close friends, but also really appreciate having so many "more subtle" connections with people. The more love you give, the more love you get, the more love you give. Great content my man. subscribed

Only just discovered your channel and really enjoying your videos. I can relate to them more than the ones living in a cottage or wooden hut in the middle of nowhere. It's a more realistic existence. Even if we live in an urban area, it can still be slow, peaceful, simple living. It's what we make of it that matters. We can always escape to the countryside to enjoy all it has to offer. I think you have a very balanced view of slow living. I'm 63 and have always lived a slow life. It was more hectic when the kids were home, but the last 20 years or so have been so peaceful. I just enjoy living in the moment, taking joy from the simple things in life, and doing as I please... and not what others think I should be doing.

Seve, you are half my age, and still you're able to speak out loud and say the words - as they were spoken out of my mouth 🤗
I experienced almost the same as you, in my minimalist/down sizing/ declutter-proces...and the buttom line is:
it has brought so much calm, gratitude, happiness, contentness, and meaning to my life ❤
I cherish every step I have taken, every breath, every day🙏 and every step, breath and day I have in front of me.
And my colour is for sure, the colour of the Sun ☀️

Im 42 and live my life alone in a big city in my own around me brainwashed from child to adult to think that extern factors are money and material things....all short term and to me empty and start inside you and not with extern factors.
I change my whole life when i was in my 30s.
End of the day its your life and your happyness and not what the matrix wants....all modern slave robots.
Blessed my friend ✨🍀🙏💌
