Good tip, also snapping branches off, verses cutting might be less obvious in some situations..

my dad was a badass CAF 2RCR sniper, he taught me when cutting sticks to smear cam paint on the severed end then dirt. That particular application was when he was teaching me to make (dunno what it's called) a wheel of branches with vegetation thatched between to have portable concealment

You can also go for branches that are higher up and taper your cut so the exposed part isn't visible.

Well, like you said though, ”It’ll be harder to find”. The problem though is Its There and can be found. When you’re escaping and evading, you either leave nothing to be found or leave traces To be found and lead your trackers away from you.
