If you use Romabio none of your issues exist. It allows the brick to breathe, you can do it yourself, causes no structural damage, can be touched up, etc.

You are correct in saying hire a professional to paint your home. Professionals will use the proper material and thus no issues should occur. So saying that it will "probably be destroying your brick" is wrong unless you use the wrong product.
2. Brick is rarely used structurally for homes built in the last 50 years. Again, use the right product you will not have issues with moisture.
3. I live in the south with thousands of painted homes 99% of which have zero issues. I can say for 100% certainly painted homes, as long as it is a desirable color, sell for more than non painted. Paint peeling will only happen if you use the wrong type of paint.
4. I agree with you on this one. If you have an historic home, In my opinion you should preserve the look. However, if you do choose to paint it, as long as you use the correct type of paint you will be fine. See the theme here.
5. Yes, if you paint your home and were not 100% certain you liked the color or just changed your mind after the fact, then you have a big problem on your hands. It will take a professional to painstakingly remove it. Unnnleeeessss you use the wrong type of paint then it will come off fairly easy with a pressure washer.
Point is, done correctly, painting a home is safe, looks amazing and can add value especially in the eye of a buyer.

When the trend is over and you painted your 500k+ beautiful brick not sixties old brick you will regret it with a 75k+ loss. Don't paint beautiful homes the trend will end ❗️

Pretty much every issue mentioned, is the result of not using the right products.

If I was you, I’d go to the people who taught you all of these drawbacks, and ask them about using the right products.

There are many options that not only make brick look way better, but most of them actually extend the bricks useful life by contributing to the brick surfaces resistance to elements - all of the options involve mineral integration with colorant.

Obviously latex paint is bad for brick. 🤦‍♂️.
Latex paint is bad for everything.

Staining brick is the best way to go. Stain allows the brick to still be able to breathe, but it gives the home a new look, color and curb appeal

I’m here because it hurts my soul to see beautiful brick houses painted white

It looks like they are painting over graffiti. Natural brick makes the house look like a home. Painted brick looks homogeneous and bland...in my opinion

They make paints specifically for brick and Rock, don't need a professional (I am a professional painter of 20 years)

You do need a spray gun, I would never recommend rolling or using brushes on exterior stone/brick...

That's where you get into a lot of unessisary and inconsistent coloring.

If you are having peeling- you did a couple things wrong before hand.
You painted over dirty brick/stone.
(Pressure wash first)
2- your paint. If you buy cheap paint (for ANYTHING) You will pay dearly for it in the end, by using alot more for the right coverage, and it doesn't hold up as well.
Cheap paint will require 2- 3 coats to cover vs good paint, 1 coat typically does the job, but you will need no more than 2 coats, AND no need to primer.
So, think about that. If you use 3 coats- your using 3 times the paint making you buy that many more gallons. So not only did you not save money, you spent alot more and put in triple the amount of work.

Expensive paint is priced that way for a reason. It is durable and does not require multiple coats, so, you spend the same in the end, but have a dependable brand that lasts YEARS longer.

I will add, if I had to choose for a customer, stain over paint, I would advise stain all day, you can get semi transparent or solid (which covers like paint) it is a bit more expensive, however, it guarantees a stick.

You also can’t go back to unpainted brick. The brick will NEVER look the same again once it is painted over

As a brick and stone Mason...I appreciate it.

You can do it wrong or correctly. So just use correct products as always and your brick will last 15 years like mine on 2 different houses.

Other options are rendering and limewash.

So why cinder block houses in tropical countries have none of these issues?
Care to explain?

Painting brick is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. You’re taking something that is maintenance free and will last forever and ruining it.
