Why We Have So Much Inflammation and Why it Matters | Dr. Robert Lustig

Levels Advisor Robert Lustig, MD, describes the pros and cons of inflammation and how inflammation relates to the gut.

🔥 Inflammation is necessary for the body to fight off foreign invaders—such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites—and to help with healing.

☠️ But if the body isn’t doing those things, then inflammation is a problem. It drives aging processes and can contribute to early death.

🍽️ Inflammation is also present in the 1 in 10 people who have an autoimmune disease. However, 9 out of 10 people in general have inflammation. Why? The answer is diet, which can be changed to help control inflammation.

🦠 Where does the inflammation come from? The gut. Our intestines are full of bacteria. The gut has three barriers in place to keep bacteria in the intestines rather than letting it get into the bloodstream. However, these barriers are under attack from the problems with diet.

Different people would recommend different things like "carnivore" diet or keto diet, vegan diet etc etc. but one thing all will agree upon is "No junk food, no ultraprocessed food(aka junk food), no simple carbs, no high sugar foods"

This is so true, I spent two weeks in London summer of 2024 and by the second week my husband and I were so inflamed and bloated that I felt like a balloon. Despite walking almost everywhere, everything had some sort of dairy in it and this kept making our stomach make funny sounds each time and was distended.
Two weeks after we got back home, I could feel the inflammation reduce and my gut return to normal.

I had back and sciatica pain for over a decade, fixed that in 3 weeks on keto. Now I'm doing carnivore, haven't had any pain in 2 years. Stay away from sugars, bread and ultra processed food, which will help a lot.

remember, the first real round of gly in the food was 79-80 (saw behavioral changes in adults, as a kid), then next up, 85-87, see sugar consumption spike, then 92-93, see my psoriasis, then up again with stacked crops 96-97, then up again til oba legalizes high levels and cleaner foods sent abroad and more polluted kept here, right before mandated health insurance.

They’ve managed to ruin all of our food so even if you wanna make everything homemade you still have to search and have enough money to pay for things it’s disgusting!

No we need fix the food culture first. Monitoring of fast food chains. Price up for fast food. Making healthy food available and low prices. Monitoring companies and their products. More legislation around e numbers and additives...and so on.

We need to fix our food and we've already ruined our water and land.
