Israeli troops have entered Lebanon, in what the Israeli military calls a "limited, localised and targeted" ground operation against Hezbollah.

The Israel Defense Forces say the targets inside southern Lebanon pose "an immediate threat to Israeli communities".

Israeli air strikes have continued overnight with the IDF saying it hit Beirut, while officials in Lebanon say a building in a Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon was hit.

On Monday, Hezbollah's deputy leader Naim Qassem said the group was ready for an Israeli ground offensive and that the battle "may be long".

In Lebanon, officials say more than 1,000 people have been killed in the past two weeks, while up to a million may now be displaced.

The sad irony is that no one threatened Hezbollah. This is the disaster of its own making

I'm worried about the Christian Lebanese getting dragged into it and also the Muslims that lived side by side, people that didn't want nothing to do with, I ❤Lebanon

Looks like southern Lebanon is destined to be a buffer zone.

mind you the Hezbollah terrorists have ignored an UN designated demilitarisation buffer zone within Lebanon. They had it coming since ages. If the local governments are doing nothing to destroy the islamist terrorist groups within their borders who have been launching attacks against Israel not only since oct 7 but since decades, Israel has every right to establish their own buffer zone by occupying neighbouring border territory and neutralising all terrorist threats within it.

Dear BBC, there are three stages to this degradation and collapse of (1) Hamas (2) Hezbollah (3) Iranian theocratic government. This is the end result of Iran/IRGC, Hezbollah, Liwa Zainebiyoun, Liwa Fatemiyoun, PIJ, Kata'ib Hezbollah, Asa'ib AHL Al-Haq, Harakat Hezbollah Al - Nunjaba, Houthis, Abu Ali Mustapha Brigades and Al - Aqsa martyrs brigade who have clearly stated their objective is the destruction of Israel and its people, they have stated this in speeches, sermons, letters, founding documents, books - for decades. By attacking Israel and massacring civilians on Oct 7th 2023, Iran and its proxies crossed a clear line, showing their rhetoric will be backed by real action. The consequence of their genocidal action will be the toppling of the theocratic regime in Iran. BBC, you are on the wrong side of history because your journalists are so poorly educated and ill informed.
