I have allways said just because a weapon is old does not mean it ineffective it all come down to circumstances as to when best used. Knives are the oldest weapons and are still used in combat.

Full context:
The IDF wanted to burn down overgrown grass and brushes. Normally, you would use "flamethrowers" (not the napalm typ from vietnam, but the gas ones for gardening work).
In this particular case, a group of engineers where task. They had no intresst in crossing the border to do what essantial is gardening.
Thus, they build a small trebuchet.

Based on the first dozen comments, your attempt to mislead has been effective.

The trebuchet fireball was not intended to, nor did it, attack enemy forces. It was used to burn back undergrowth and maintain open sight lines to prevent the enemy from using cover to get close to the wall.

That flaming ball went approx 100 yards, at best, and rolled most of that distance. The speed, angle of release, and its downward trajectory means it was either a test and a failed attempt.
