Today we're taking a long overdue look at the AMD Radeon HD 5450. This card comes in both a DDR2 and GDDR3 variant, and it's the faster of the two we'll be testing today.

Driver support has long gone, and although this GPU supports DX11 that doesn't prove all to helpful..

I used to play Skyrim on gt610 2 gb edition and when it ran at 30 fps it felt sooo smooth. Then I got a 1050ti oc edition and saw 60 fps, I was simply blown away 😂.

My first ever gpu…. Man, I don’t miss playing at 800x600 with low settings at all.

Also, your older review of this card was the first video of yours I ever watched. Thank you for giving this card another review on how lmfao bad it is for gaming.

I know it's an esports title but Overwatch surprised me on the little HD 5450! Nearly 60 FPS and definitely playable!

I am the prowd owner of 2 HD 5450's.
One of them is sitting in an htpc that we use once or twice in a month and the other one I use it for testing motherboards and PC equipment in general it is very convenient that it doesn't need external power and it has video outputs that most of the older monitors have.

There was another sneaky use for these cards, crossfire with the a8/a10 series apus. I did this back in the day and the performance was mediocre, but playable.

I have a silent version of the card, and it was intended for a home theater PC back in 2010. These days, it is in a 775 motherboard running a Core 2 duo CPU running windows 10 on an SSD. Basically, a silent web browser home office PC.

These are the old cards I usually see new on eBay for cheap lol... its actually funny when someone describes a PC as a gaming PC with one of these cards in it for sale. It is interesting buying them and playing around with these cards.

I remember this card, had it on my old Laptop back in 2011. At the time I thought all the games at 15-30 fps were smooth as heck, I remember first playing GTA V and Black Ops 2 on there. Then I upgraded to a newer PC then was simply blown away at the FPS. Honestly still decent for fairly simple games. Especially strategy games, remember playing a lot of Victoria II on it as well.

Still impressive to see such a low end card even running some of these titles. I still remember when it was new and a decent card for older dx9 titles on windows XP. Might still hold up for classic gaming and such.

Ah, the HD 5450. I got the exact same model as yours for my parents' PC for use as a video decoding card (as you mentioned, it was originally intended for HTPCs), but before that, I tested this card in my own PC to see if it works. One of the games I tried was Minecraft, and it ran surprisingly well, at a very stable 30 FPS at 1080p. Granted, it was paired with a fairly modern CPU (Ryzen 3 2200G) but it was the best performance I've seen in Minecraft from an ultra budget GPU, certainly better than the absolute travesty that is the integrated G31 chipset graphics in my parents' PC.

Hey can you please find out how much of a difference there is between this card and the DDR2 version ? 😉

Would it be possible for you to test a radeon VII? I'd love to see you test it for 2022 and for the future. I guess it must be one of the more uncommon cards since i have only seen 1 in a 200km radius of where i live.

Last year I bought an big mystery GPU box and got 2 of those monsters. The HD 5450 might be bad for gaming, but when crossfire them, there get better. I played GTA V with 20fps before and then added the 2nd and got well up 30fps at 720p and low and at least it was also stable. But every other game witheout Crossfire will suffer as hell. btw both was the gddr3 cards with 1gb

Thanks to this GPU it can play all these amazing games: Dead space 1, 2, 3, Fear 1, 2, 3, Condemned, Amnesia the dark descent and machine for pigs, Penumbra 1, 2, Tomb raider (2012), RE 4, 5, 6, Dishonored,Devil may cry, GTA IV, Alice madness returns, Alien isolation, Alan wake, Half life 2 and episodes 1 and 2, Crysis 1 and 2, Bioshock trilogy, Max payne 1, 2, 3, Life is strange, Mirors edge, Mortal kombat 9, Murdered soul suspect, outlast, Portal 1, 2, Prey, Serious sam 2, 3, Soma, Spec ops: the line, Stalker shadow of chernobyl, , now i have a 1060 6gb and i love it but the 5450 has most of my gaming memories...

That Far Cry Primal experience reminds me of how I tried to play it on my old laptop. Ran, well, poorly, and at the end of it all, my computer crashed because it wasn't able to shut the game down properly

Would be interesting to see how these lower end cards run with some overclocking to them, to squeeze as much as possible

I remember I spent £340 on a refurbished Dell XPS system back in 2010 with 4gb ram, i3 550 and this GPU. I thought I was a absolute baller for about 20 minutes until I was wondering why games where running crappy. First of gaming experience lol but I remember a few days later I ended up buying 9800 GT and selling the 5450.

Don't know how but I ended up with another 5450 years later. Used it for to test scrap pc's I threw together to check they worked before ordering a gpu
