ABOUT ME: I'm James Dunne, a runner, sports rehabilitation therapist (similar to physical therapist) and coach based in the UK (Norwich and London).

Since 2007 I've been working with athletes focusing specifically on helping distance runners and triathletes overcome injury and improve performance through developing their individual running technique.

Running biomechanics and physical therapy are real passions of mine. I love to help runners run strong and stay injury free.

"When you do start to feel those heavy legs, switch your focus to your arms. If you maintain a quick rhythm with your arms, swinging back and forth, your legs will follow."

Thanks!

Thanks James for the video. Three years ago, I used to be really chubby and I had trouble running for more than a minute. I had to change, I started walking to lose weight. And my three rules were Walk Till Tired, Record Your Number, and Walk Again Tomorrow. Now and after three years, I run everyday for about 5 km. I hope my experience helps

1. Start Slow
2. Run Often (weekly mileage)
3. Focus on Form for long runs - posture and cadence

I've watched a million of your videos. Can't believe that this is free content. As a novice runner, these videos have helped me so much.
Started off with:
5Km: 35 min
10Km: 1 hour 20 min
21Km: 2 hours 37 min

Now I run:
5Km: 22 mins
10Km: 51 mins
21Km: 1 hour 51
And currently training for a sub 4 hour marathon.

I cannot ever thank you enough James.

This is brilliant advice. Pure common sense and yet often we ignore it because we’re looking for shortcuts. Patience is the most underrated virtue.

Increasing cadence while reducing stride after 20 km helped me greatly in completing 30 km in one go. Thank you James!!! I have now managed a 30 km run every week for the last two weeks.

I love long runs (especially with friends) but when I get tired my form starts to deteriorate. Thanks for the help!

3:04 I read about this in Murakami's book. Strangely I had not made the connection before that but since then I do often think about it whenever I get tired. There is also a visualisation I learnt from a taichi teacher that is also helpful for this.

🤯 THAT'S CRAZY! EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID I WAS TELLING MY BOY I DID AFTER OUR RUN YESTERDAY! ESPECIALLY THE SWITCHING TO THE ARMS! THAT FELT GREAT! WE WALKED, JOGGED, SPRINTED & REPEATED FOR MILES. SOMEDAYS IT'S JUST RUN, BUT I LIKE TO SWITCH IT UP. I'VE BEEN RUNNING AWHILE, BUT NEVER LOOKED AT THE SCIENCE OF IT TIL HERE LATELY. CRAZY HOW THESE LITTLE TRICKS WORK! HERE A FEW MORE THINGS I DO. FOCUS ON SOMETHING IN THE DISTANCE AND AS I GET CLOSER FOCUS ON SOMETHING FURTHER AWAY AGAIN TO TRY FOR TO IMPROVE THE DISTANCE. LEAN A LITTLE MORE FORWARD WHEN RUNNING UP HILL AS TO PUT MORE FOCUS ON THE HAMSTRING & BUTT TO DO THE HARD WORK & WHEN I START TO "THINK" I'M TIRED, LISTEN TO THE MUZIK MORE CLOSELY OR CHECKOUT THE SURROUNDINGS TO TROCK THE BRAIN. THE WHOLE & MAIN KEY FOR ME IS... KNOW YOUR BODY. DO HAVE ONE Q THOUGH... IS THERE ANY KEY TO DOWN HILL?

👍 Great Channel, glad I found it. Among my favourites now along with GTN.
BTW I found it via your Shin Splints vid. I started running 2 months ago, at first knee pain (got new more cushioned running shoes and fixed form like overstriding), but lately I got anterior shin pains.
Seeing your vid I understand why. Before I went to the gym (I hope it re-opens soon) and I did strength training incl. calf raises, glutes, hip abductor etc. and stopped doing that and I am sure this had an impact on my body.
