Lemme guess.  Meredith was sitting in the weekly staff meeting one day and mentioned in passing to no one in particular, "Over the years, I've collected over a hundred facts that can't be categorized into a list."  John walked in about then (always late to the staff meeting) and responded, "Hey, lets just slap them in a Mental Floss video."  The rest, as they say, is history.
