How to Deal with a Nicotine Withdrawal | Quit Smoking

There are two types of withdrawal from nicotine. There is physical withdrawal and there is emotional withdrawal. For the physical withdrawal there are nicotine replacement therapies which have nicotine in them and will help you withdraw slowly physically. Nicotine addiction is 80 percent psychological, it's 20 percent physical. Either way it can be a very difficult withdrawal.

One of the first suggestions I have is to treat yourself like a little kid, like a child. Get plenty of rest. Eat proper nutritious meals. Nap when you're tired if you can. Take walks around the block. Or, if you live near a body of water or in the mountains, take a beautiful walk and look at the sky.

Deep breathe. Breathe in and out. Drink a lot of water. That will also help you with cravings. And the deep breathing will help you when you're feeling panicky and full of anxiety. It's the first thing a paramedic will tell you when you're feeling terrified. When you see a tragic accident a paramedic would tell you, take deep breaths slowly in through your nose and out through your mouth. Well, it works the same way with the nicotine withdrawal.

There are many things that you can do to also help you with nicotine withdrawal. Don't let yourself get too lonely. I've already mentioned tired. If you're angry try to deep breathe. Try to talk it out with a friend whatever's going on, because these things can be exacerbated by the withdrawal. You could end up picking up a cigarette instead of dealing with the actual situation.

I recommend you try all of these things. Please, reward yourself. Be good to yourself. Don't pick up a cigarette.

So easy for non smokers and doctors and psychologists to say. I'm going on 19 hours cold turkey. I'm having a fit. Went for 4 walks today. The park and sat on the swings. Music. Water. Gum. I just bought a pack but I have not opened it. I won't go through 19 hours of torture to just give up. But now that temptation is sitting outside on the patio. I can't let that pack of Marlboro's control me. I refuse. 14 years of smoking one pack per day. $27, 000 wasted. 109, 400 cigarettes smoked. Theae are things I remind myself of. First 4 days are the worst. And I'm only at 19 hours

I’ve been addicted to opiates, Benzodiazepine, and cocaine. Nicotine is by far the hardest addiction for me to break. But tomorrow I’m going to try to put the smokes down and push through it, and hopefully this time never pick them back up ! Handing out prayers for everybody and good luck to you people !

when you have a craving 3 steps, do them for 15 minutes and the graving will be gone, for a while:
1- Set a 15 minute timer, and start following your breathing
2- Think about things you are going to be able to do because you are living healthier and cheaper
3- If the 15 minute are not over yet and you feel anger, go and excercise. Run, walk, cycle or punch a bag over and over again
Bonus +1: Track the amount of times you have succesfully got over a craving, This constant increasing number will motivate you just like the increase of left over money because you controle your cravings and so your spending

This was good. I’m a big tough guy and when I quit I found myself to be an emotional mess. Even cried a few times. I just let it all out and went with it. I called it a cleansing.

I’m still smoke free and would like to add what I said to myself to get through it.

1. You aren’t missing anything
2. It’s just a hit of a drug

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!! I'm on my very last box of cigarettes and just thinking of quiting is making me anxious & jittery! Great advice. I need to rise ABOVE my cravings and surround myself with positive atmospheres and uplifting activities. I can do it. You all can do it to!

one month tomorow cold turkey. The main thing that i have experienced is not sleeping every now and again. I was a smoker for 12 years, and i actually thought it was easier than i expected. I had never tried cold turkey before i would recomend to anyone. But be prepared for some dreams of smoking

addictions work similarly, I quit cigarettes 3 years ago after 9 years of smoking. I also quit other addictions.

I quit e-cigs yesterday and yesterday night was terrifying. I had thoughts about emptiness and the meaninglessness of life. It was scary.

The psychological aspect is brutal, It's incredible how broken you feel in those initial stages of withdrawal.

Doctor told me i have COPD at 36 years old. been smoking full time since i was 18. smoking atleast some since i was 13-14. I dont believe i actually have COPD but the panick and anxiety ive felt since i realized the time had come to quit and i might have a serious uncurable disease has been almost more than i can bear. Been about 24 hours now and i feel very strange not having those chemicals in my body. hopefully ill feel better when i wake up in the morning.

Hardest part for me is getting used to not smoking at certain times throughout my daily routine.. such as on my breaks at work, while im eating, driving, waking up, going to bed, takin dump. It just sucks. But for anyone looking for some advice try finding new hobbies you enjoy. You may have to take a break on some things you liked to do before to avoid triggering your cravings, but it may help. Good luck to all and to myself because i know ima need it :/

Cold turkey day 10 .. Toothpicks and fidget toys or squeezing a stress ball has gotten me through... Also got back into my workout routine for a positive outlet that's PROFITABLE to my health.
