My ANA 160 Positive without autoimmune disease, what does that mean?

Q:Anyone know what these mean?
Is this good? Is it bad?
My doctor hasn’t contact me yet but I got these results in over the weekend. they referred me to rheumatologist but said “I’m too young for an autoimmune condition”. Makes 0 sense. Didn’t think you could be too young?
A:It just means they can’t exclude an autoimmune condition. Autoimmune conditions (especially Lupus) usually have a positive ANA, BUT lots of non-sick people also have a positive ANA.
Drs usually run ANA to see if they can stop looking for autoimmune conditions (because they are so vague and difficult to diagnose). This does NOT mean you DO have it, it just means that he will likely want to run more tests or send you to a rheumatologist.
“You’re too young for that” is 100% incorrect. Unless you’re actually an infant with no immune system.
