Yeah, if you're not eating carbs and you're doing hiit.... you're going to use amino acids stored in the muscle through gluconeogensis to create glucose to fuel the workout, and you could lose muscle. Guarantee if you eat lots of carbs while doing a lot of high intensity exercise, you'll be lean and have full, hard looking muscle

Also carbs can give you an insulin spike, which causes your body to stock fat, but if you start with veggies and protein you can lower that insulin spike
