Meh, none of the gnostic gospels are "controversial." Everyone thinks there was some big conspiracy by the church to discredit them, but the simple fact is none of them date back close enough to Jesus' life to have actually been written by the apostles. And none of them have any history of being widely adopted and used in the liturgy by any of the early churches or early church fathers. So if Clement, Ingnatius or Polycarp etc, wasnt aware of them, they're probably not authentic.
