You have missed out one important point:
When one buys something of a higher value using his credit card, then there is an option to covert the purchase into EMI of 3, 6, 12 months, etc. Of course, there is an interest element, but still it is a good option.

I also feel that the cycle of Credit Card statement and the payment is kept separate to confuse the people even more as with the day to day lives and busy schedules, one tends to disregard the expenses and complicate the situation even further !! The simple solution is to not bite more than you can chew and keep a strong vigilance on the the expenses.
