'Simple Fix' for phone not charging/syncing, loose cell phone charger cord. Works in 2023, #20

This video you're watching is a recent charge port cleaning method including a demonstration. This works with Android, ANYTHING mini/micro USB, Apple + Apple "lightening" charge port, USB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and standard USB - C version 3.1. Did your cell phone suddenly stop charging? Is your charge cord loose, or falling out as well? There's a VERY COMMON CAUSE for this. This is an update for the video I made in 2012.
Please pay attention to my comments at 1:22, AND from 3:10 to 3:50! They are VERY IMPORTANT to know!
Pay close attention to ALL the warnings in this video, as damage "will" occur if a person applies "excessive pressure or force" to the small "pin row/tab" in the charging port of their device! Do at your own risk! If you have ANY doubts in your ability to perform this procedure, take your device to a qualified person who can safely repair it.

This problem can potentially affect EVERYONE who carries their phone or device in their pocket, purse, coveralls, work clothes, and more!.

Symptoms include,
• your phone or device has "stopped charging",
• it charges only when you push or wiggle the charge plug in your phone/device,
• it charges intermittently, or charges VERY slowly,
• your charge cord does not seem to "lock-in",
• the charge cord plug keeps falling out of your phone/device.
(This video "could" apply to ANY DEVICE that uses the "micro-USB style" charging port) IPhone/IPod charge ports are also vulnerable too.

WARNING!!!!!... NEVER EVER force, pry, or twist any object or tool in any way in the charging port of your device! PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to my warnings here, and in this video, as damage WILL result if you do not!

BTW, if your phone/device has a VERY SLOW charge, I have an information video I put up which you might find helpful.

0:00 Intro and explanation.
0:31 Procedure I use.
3:10 2 VERY import tips!

I have owned a phone for 3 years. Recently this phone started to not charge on any charger without any support to lift it up. With the help of this video, it finally started to charge. Thank you so so much.

Tried this on my Samsung Galaxy S7, as the charging cable wouldn't correctly locate. Got some debris out of the socket but the cable was still not engaging. Looking at it under my wife's sewing lamp/magnifier I could see a wodge of pocket lint in front of the pins. The plastic was too flexy to get hold of it, so after powering down my phone, I loosened it with a needle and then cleared it out with the plastic hook. And now it charges! Great tip!

These instructions are clear, complete, accurate and well thought-out. Advice on performing the operation successfully is valuable and well explained. Photography is excellent, and the actual debris being visible made the methods very clear for me. This gentleman deserves 1-Million+ views.
Thank you sir.

Thank you. You just saved me $400. I've had my phone for 5 years and love it! I still have my original battery that holds an amazing charge - 2 days with light use and a full day with heavy use. My apps, widgets, and programs sync me to home devices and my work device, and I've never had an issue with this phone. Lately, the charger kept slipping out, or when charging - it kept blinking in and out of charge mode. One day it took me an hour to jiggle the cable to just the right position in the port to get a charge. Frustrated and realizing my time was more valuable that $400 for a new phone, I begin the tedious search for another phone when I decided why not try to repair my phone myself. I had nothing to lose if I damaged it as it was already a goner in my opinion. I ran across your 3 videos on cleaning charging ports and another video specifying how to use alcohol, too. Even though I religiously use an Otterbox to protect my phone and the port has always been protected, 5 years of use has allowed some dust to sneak in and accumulate. I didn't see any dust/lint with my magnifying glass, but once I cleaned the port with alcohol and used your cleaning method, I was shocked at the quantity of small dust particles that had accumulated and were now falling out with each gentle scrape. I also gently scraped the prongs to remove any kind of build up or corrosion. Ready to test my fate, I plugged in the charger expecting, well - nothing to happen, and to my delighted surprise - I heard that beautiful chirp and saw the blue light signifying it was CHARGING!  Again, thank you. *subbed*

Thank you so so much!
I'm having OnePlus 5 and the charging cable got way too loose! I was afraid that I might have to get the charging port changed. Then, I saw this video and cleaned it using a very tiny safety pin. I cleaned it with extreme precautions and moved my hand very firmly and gently. It took about half an hour for me to get all the debris out of the port. With fingers crossed, I plugged the dash cable into the phone's charging port and Voila! It worked!! It immediately made that beep (dash charging) and I got so damn happy after all this hardwork.
I just couldn't resist myself from thanking you for this amazing video!
Lots of love from India! ♥️
P. S. You just saved me from spending Rs. 1200 ($20).
Thank you so much.

Dude! Thank you so very much! I've cleaned out the charge port many a times, but never thought of cleaning out underneath that little tounge in there. Now the charger actually snaps in place like it last did 2 years ago! Thank you and merry christmas!

This fixed my husband's phone. He carries his in his pocket at work and he had given up on it and was looking to buy a new phone and i just came over to youtube and searched for the port problem. your video saved us money and i thankyou very much! we don't realize how important it is to keep that rubber cover on our charge port when not charging. i will never remove one again!

Thank you!!! After mining the port for an incredible amount of debris, the charging plug would still pop out on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I modified the tip of the cleaner with a razor to obtain the needle point configuration in your original demo. This cleaned out twice what I pulled out. The charging plug snapped in like brand new. I made the length of the tool a bit longer, crimped a 90 degree tab about the width of the phone, and slid the tool - with the tab covering the charge port- between the back protective cover and the phone. Keeps the fuzz out and makes a quickly available cleaner.

I'd been staring at the 4 year accumulation of pocket lint clogging the USB jack of my Nexus 5 for a while now, wondering how I was going to get it out without damaging the jack. Having the wireless charger made the problem somewhat less acute, but not being able to use the USB caused problems on long road trips. I just spent a good 30 minutes clearing it out after making a tool like the one shown in your video, and now it's 100% again. Thanks so much for sharing your technique.

Was about to replace my port when I found this. 10 minutes later my phone now charges properly. Had to prop the wire on something above the table with the phone on it's face to get any charging this morning, now I can wave it about and it stays charging. Thanks for saving me a lot of time and effort. :)

i want to let you know that this video has been extremely helpful to me. I had to adjust my charging cable many times to get the right speed. I tried everything from sewing pin to cleaning alcohol as suggested by other videos, nothing worked

becaus I was only cleaning one side of the pin, with your tip of using a plastic cutout i was able to access the other side which has very thin gap. And VOILA!!! it worked instantaneously.

I was about to throw my phone away, thank you for saving my money

*PERFECT!* Now my charging cords hold again. I had to use a couple differently shaped "tools" to pull this maneuver off. Thankfully they're easy to make.

In my case I noticed that it still isn't quite perfect (I wasn't expecting miracles) so I ordered a new USB charging port for my phone (ebay/$4.53 delivered).

But it's perfectly functional again, and now I know what to do.

Holy macaroni! I never thought this would work but gave it a go and voila, my phone is charging again! Such a simple fix, as you pointed out. I didn't have any plastic to hand so used small folded piece of non sticky part of a post it note ie non conductive, folded to make it rigid enough. The little folds acted like small scoop too for finer pieces of lint/dirt.
You good sir, are a saint and might I add saving the planet from people having to buy more electrical items they don't really need. I would love to pay you a small thank you on Patreon or similar if you have an account. Thank you very much

Mine wouldn't plug in properly, sometimes the plug fell out and wouldn't fully charge. Tried this method and cleared out loads of fluff and now it fits like new and charges properly. Thanks for sharing

Worked like a charm. Thank you. I couldn't believe the amount of dirt & link I removed. I used a headlamp to help illuminate the port to be sure I got everything.
