Best exercise in the book is to open any textbook in category theory and proof all theorems in it by yourself.

I ordered it recently (haven't got it yet), for it to be my goto algebra-reference. I checked the pdf online, and it looks really great. I'm not going to regret that buy.

I wonder sometimes whether one should first memorize all the definitions in a math book before even beginning to read the proofs. Maybe I am trying desperately to compensate for my mediocre short-term and long-term working memory. Hey, even before that, I wonder if I should memorize the symbolic notation that is used. Memorization might save me from constantly having to flip back x pages to refer to the formal definition of something.

Exercise 1: show that every group of order <= 5 is abelian.

Well, I guess that's one way of starting. Jeez!

Hi Math Sorcerer, could I get your opinion on something as an adult learner? I feel a bit low about how I did my Chemistry degree about 10 years ago when I was 18. I found the jump pretty big from A-level, lived out for the first time and was not sure how to manage stress well. I think I prefer a teaching style and was not used to how the lecturer explained things. A part of me wants to see if I am actually a better self learner now and maybe if I can learn these topics better as I have seen more resources on YouTube and actually mixed with people who seem to enjoy the subject. It’s not for the grade it’s just for myself but I don’t know if this is silly for me to do/just my ego talking.

Does it still have the famous HW at the end of the chapter on Homilogical Algebra?

What book would you recommend to learn abstract algebra from 0?

It is not a wonderful book, it is very difficult to learn from, and not a favorite of math graduate students. You cannot be more wrong

Can you imagine if an AI could master math and understand this auper quick like in "Colossus: The Forbin Project" then go on to invent new math.

I find it confusing that this and the basic stuff are both called algebra
