Reminder that Ukraine was the region that most produced tanks in the Soviet Era. Most of Russia tanks today were made in Ukraine, so... Yeah, Ukraine knows all their strenght and weaknesses. Russia kinda forgot about that...

Hard to believe that it was once thought that Russia was a near peer adversary of the USA...

I love how Putin says Ukraine joining NATO was a "security risk" when Ukraine literally gave thousands of nukes to Russia, and then they invade them, even after Russia promised it would never infringe Ukraine's security rights.

Around 8 years ago I was in a forum about the Syrian Civil War. We were discussing how the factions managed to keep their old Soviet tanks running when a lurker chimed in. He was a former Russian Army officer that used to oversee operations at a tank engine rebuilding facility and also was curious to know where they were obtaining replacement parts. He then posted photos of him in uniform standing by mounds of tank engines piled on top of each other outside buildings. He said there's plenty more stacked like that inside the structures because none are being rebuilt due to their inability to obtain the parts plus those that got mashed by stacking. Said they've been having that problem for years so told the tank unit commanders to leave still running engines in the tanks instead of shipping those to him. They also got calls from their higher-ups demanding to know why no engines are being rebuilt only to be told to do the best they could until those arrive.

Tanks still have their place in modern warfare, but the problem was Russia was deploying them as if it was WWII.

Quick note:
a "simple" thrown track should be something a Tank Crew can fix on their own with onboard tools specifically for this occasion. However once again they either lack training or tools.

In the mid to late 70' I spent time in the Australian reserves, VMR, an artillery regiment, we were taught that due to the low profile designs of contemporary ( at the time )Russian tanks, the selected average height of Russian tank crews was 5 feet 2 inches.
Oh and exercises repairing or replacing tracks on APC's was not my idea of fun, never got to play with the German Leopard 1 series tanks the Australian army were supplied with in mid 70's however saw them in exercises and they were formidable weapons.
42 ton, 105 mm QF gun and 7.62 MG's, with a 'prepared' water fording depth of 4 meters, nearly 13 feet, I saw an exercise where except for an aerial and snorkle one submerged in a dam before powering out of the depths, spectacular !
Our tankmen were somewhat taller than 5'2" from my observations however.

It's even worse! About 2 years ago, I saw drone footage of a huge field in a completely barren area. This field was totally full of old Soviet tanks. There was no maintenance shed or any sign of activity anywhere. They were just sitting out in the field. This was also in the Northern Far East where the cold is REALLY cold! You just know that critters are climbing up inside them, making nests, chewing up anything soft like hoses, any cloth or anything to help them make nests! I don't see how these tanks can be usable without almost a complete rebuild! And this makes me happy!

They haven’t just destroyed old tanks, my brother in law and cousin is over there and I haven’t talked to them In a few months but they said the t90 tanks have been destroyed also, the t 90 is supposedly one of best in the world which now shows they are not ! Could you imagine being a Russian soldier and to be waiting on your tank to arrive and then it happens, you look up and see a old rusty to t62 or t72, getting inside your tank and it won’t even start !!! Prayers for the Ukrainian people!

The world: … 😑

Hard to imagine tank battles between T62s and Leopard 2s. Kind of reminds me of the old movie, Final Countdown, where a modern nuclear aircraft carrier went back in time and was going to attack the Japanese Navy before they attacked Pearl Harbor. F14s against Zeros.

As you can see, this is happening in cartoon land and not real life. It's Ukraine begging for tanks, not Russia.

Put it like this: if France and Germany together agreed to hand over every single tank in their arsenal, they would still be well short of how many Russian tanks have been captured by Ukraine.

Yes, I have seen Perun's video on captured hardware, it's not a one to one comparison, but it's still an absolutely insane number.

T62 has a fuel guzzler of an engine. If you keep it fed in engine oil and water it will get you there and back! Russian tank crews were saying they had no tools. Can’t get a track back on without spanners and pullers, even on hard flat ground.

Tanks in Ukraine are mostly used for infantry support and for breaching defensive strongpoints. The older, obsolescent tanks are adequate for this task. There has not been any large tank battles, the tank destroyer mission has gone to artillery and rockets that strike at the tops of tanks which affects new and old tank designs the same.

I am missing one very important point. T64S, T72, T80 and T90 tanks are using 125mm ammunition and Russia is running out of 125mm ammunition. Russia Has enough very old T62 tanks and these tanks use 115mm ammunition and Russia did not use this caliber so far during this war thus Russia has enough 115mm ammunition and T62 tanks. Russia has not the capacity to produce at this moment enough 125mm ammunition so they have to step back to the T62/115mm.

The only thing missing from the first scene it the throwing of the turret hundreds of meters into the air as the ammo inside ignites.
