Please note that to get this effect, it works better in the round, rather than per row. The other thing is, if your work is usually tight, to make your single crochet large. The first row is a standard single crochet in a chain stitch.

For anyone looking for this stitch, it's a waistcoat stitch or knit stitch. There are other tutorials on YouTube.

Nice way to mimic knit stitches. Looks good. But not as stretchy as knit, but it is thicker. So if you dont want it stretchy, then this is great!

I made a beautiful wool sweater using this stitch which is sometimes called a center single crochet. If you use this stitch try using a busy hand died yarn it comes out so amazing.

I like this look. As people say you can only achieve this look if you are working on the same side throughout the whole project. I would then work it like a mosaic piece and only work on one side, and yes that means you have to start a new row from the right each time. I may try this and use lots of beautiful colors, or get a variegated yarn. You could keep the "fringe" you'll have on the sides or do a double layered border.

That almost looks like a tulip hook but the handle looks a bit dark.

Keeping a loose tension is everything for this stitch.
