I make mine in the round. Make a chain that is long enough to wrap around where you want the end of the sleeve part to be, and crochet around. You want to drop or skip a stich every few rows until you reach your wrist for a fitted effect, unless you have oddly shaped arms. In that case, add or skip stitches to fit. Do it randomly to hide the missing stitches.

When you reach your wrist, add three stiches per row until you reach where your thumb hole is going to go. At that point, skip the stiches that make up the thumb covering and crochet up to where you want the finger section to go, without adding any more stiches. And then you can finish as you please.i

(If you want thumb holes like these, don't join the rows and instead crochet like a flat piece instead of adding stitches. Go back to crocheting in the round when you're above the webbing of your thumb.)

I don't like the loose fit of fingerless gloves made this way, so I experimented and this is what developed.

Everything I crochet, my son eventually tries to pilfer. Except these, for some reason. I have made a few pairs, and am making little tweaks like adding cuffs or thumbs to give as Christmas presents. They work up nice and quick and look more involved than they are.
