In this video, I'll show you how you can quickly get started with improvisation over any chord changes using one of the core methods in The Neo Jazz Piano Method. The Neo Jazz Piano Method is a 3-month method I've put together for learning for speeding up the learning process of mastering jazz piano, especially if you like the modern and/or neo soul-influenced sound!

In this video, we take a look at how the entire Neo Jazz Piano Method works from start to finish. You can make some incredible progress applying this method to your learning. This is all in all a 12-week process that you can use to overcome obstacles to your jazz improvisation and harmony, implementing Neo Soul-inspired techniques, harmony and improvisation to achieve a modern jazz sound.

My former jazz piano teacher also encouraged me to do this. I haven't done it in ages because it's more difficult than it looks. You will end up having to frequently deviate from the standard fingering for each scale that you finger as you go through the changes, I guess that's the value of the routine.

I love how that room looks! This is one of the methods I use to practice improvising on guitar (the next step adding passing tones and the other main technique is playing chord tones).

Well done. Thinking horizontally (scales) on Giant Steps makes it easier than just a vertical (arpeggio) approach. I think of the notes of an Eb augmented triad (Eb, G, and B) to remember the major key centers. First descending (B to G to Eb), then ascending in II V I's. The only tricky thing is the displaced harmonic rhythm during the first section.

I had one question about the excersice. For example if you do it over giant steps. Do you use dorian over every chord or do you use the fitting mode over the chord (like all major modus?)

Noah, what is your understanding approach for any alterations faced? Modal interchange or chords borrowing from parallel tonalities? Maybe, both and it depends?
