It's officially tax season, so how are you going to file this year? Well, you're in luck! In this video I show you how to file taxes in Canada using two versions of TurboTax. One is TurboTax Live Full Service where you just hand off your documents to a tax professional and they handle it all for you. And the other version is their DIY version, where you put in all of your info and file it yourself. There's also the option to get a tax professional to assist you as you go through the software and review your work to help you get the best tax refund possible, or if you're self-employed, the lowest tax bill possible.

No matter how you decide to file taxes in Canada, I hope this video is helpful just so you can see what the process is like. And if you have any questions, let me know in the comments!

Dear Jessica, I'm a french speaker, newcomer in Canada. Thank you so much. I really like your explanation, it's very clear and comprehensible for someone non native english speaker like me.

Hey Jessica loved the tax episode on your podcast this week. One new benefit I’m not sure you and Susan talked about was the Canadian Training Credit. It’s a $250 credit with a lifetime benefit of $5000. I did a super quick video on it. Definitely take advantage of that credit as well! Keep up the great work ☺️

I’m so happy you made this video! I was looking into the DIY self/employed but didn’t sign up because I thought I would have to pay first! I’m so happy I can go into and play around with it first before paying. Do you think the DIY + assist version is similar to the self-employed DIY but just with the option to talk to someone?

27:30 Unfortunately, you stopped where I wanted to see what to do next. Would have been better if you actually showed the part where we fill self employment income and expenses.

How would I file if all my sales are local on treaty reservation land ? I don’t collect taxes from sales. But I pay taxes for my stores orders. Gas for delivery. Registration for vehicle etc. Would I receive a refund ?

Just wondering if this is still up-to-date? Since I'll be following this tutorial for my 2023 taxes

Once you submit personal taxes and fill out the self-employed portion.... do you need to file anything else as a sole proprietor like business tax filing or gst/hst forms of any sort? Thank you

I bought Tesla cash for my self employed 2023. I prepare food and deliver them. How can I enter the car expense on CCA?

So does the walk through you did for us include the filing of just your personal taxes as self-employed or is it BOTH the personal and GST/HST filing you'd have to do??

Jessica, great video. Thanks a lot. As for meal expenses, I know you can deduct meal expenses with clients, but can you deduct meal expenses with employees (e.g., not a party, just a lunch with an employee discussing business)?

If I'm self-employed under my name do I still need a business license?

Can a person just use the "standard" version to do a simple self employed personal name and home office. I understand it has all the forms needed, so wondering how it is different than self employed. My friend said you could but you have less returns in the total price. Thanks in advance

Thank you Jessica for the helpful video and the 20% off link. I am employed for 8 months and contractor for 4 months for different companies, do I have to file tax as self-employment?

If you are a sole proprietor and it's your only income do you do self employment tax form as well as a personal too?
