The Soviet Union lost between 14, 453 and 26, 000 soldiers during the Soviet–Afghan War, which lasted from 1979 to 1989.Two years later the USSR went kaput.

Won't cost them much. It's only a "special military deletion."

Russia has somehow failed to learn that when your troops come home, they bring lessons and experience with them. Experience they can share, and experience that might keep them alive if they choose to redeploy. Ukraine's troops aren't being used as cannon fodder, so they're able to improve over time. Imagine trying to play Contra and getting exactly one chance. Whoops, you died on the first level? Well that's it, that was your one and only chance to ever beat the game. That's what it's like being a Russian conscript.

1, 5 M casualties is what russia has already suffered until now, if we count KIA, WIA and MIA.

Just a little thing that some people should know. The term “casualty“ does not necessarily mean fatality. A casualty is a individual who, for whatever reason can no longer conduct the fight. This includes obviously fatalities, but also severe injuries. For instance, if a soldier gets shot and killed, and then the soldier next to him is, let’s say shot in the leg and, you know his leg gets severely mangled up. Both of those individuals are considered casualties.

Now that being said, given Russia’s outdated military doctrine I’m not really surprised that many of these numbers, even if they are estimates are probably very close to truth. After all the Russians have pretty much no moral high ground in this conflict. None whatsoever. They literally have zero right to be where they are. This whole thing this whole “special military operation“ is all just because one man to believe that the Soviet union is gone and it’s not coming back.

Vladimir Putin has come out on record in the past two once say that the disillusion of the Soviet union was as he put it “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century“. Now granted given the fact that this man was a member of the KGB, which were basically the Soviet equivalent to the Nazi SS, his mentality isn’t really that surprising. Although despite what he would like to tout that he was some kind of bad ass KGB spy or something. This has actually come to nothing. In reality, he was little Moore than a glorified secretary. He sat at a desk and answered phones in the KGB headquarters building.

The same thing, though here is, I think in a way the Russians really can’t stop the fighting. Or at least their governing body can’t. Because they know that if they do stop the fighting Putin and all of his little men will be on the chopping block. They know for a fact that if they don’t win this conflict, their lives are basically over. Although at the way things are going even if they do win. It is highly unlikely that they will be seen as heroes or Anything .

Because of one man’s delusions not only has Russia lagged behind in pretty much everything in the world for the past several years. But Russia has now become basically geopolitically isolated from the rest of the world. For all intensive purposes, Russia has become similar to North Korea it is an international pariah state.

Too bad for the Russians, but I don’t care about their casualties or the damage to their economy or to their country in general. I care that Ukraine is being slowly bled dry by this ongoing invasion, both for them and for us in the West. This is year 3 of this war. What’s the point of pouring Western military aid into Ukraine if they are not allowed to make the most effective use of that aid to make its enemy stop? Having Ukraine collapse in 1 or 2 or 3 more years does not make NATO any more secure than at present.

That Putin offers health insurance for his foreign mercenaries is hilarious. They will not last a week and will have no need for a doctor. Hahaha

Fun fact: Decimation means to kill 1 in 10. The Romans would give the order to decimate a legion, the idea being this increased discipline & obedience. The Russian Army has been more than decimated.
