Hello Ray - your magnifier circuit (and its balanced counterpart) can operate in two different ways depending on the size of C2. If C2 is 'small' then the third mode number will be large and the system will operate more like a traditional 2-stage TC system, because the currents in L2 and L3 are similar and locked together. If C2 is larger, and maybe an actual capacitor of order 1nF, then the magnifier works as a 3-stage magnifier system with the benefit of a much longer primary notch allowing the primary spark to extinguish more easily. I have studied and implemented all of (the late) Antonio's work on multi-resonant networks and I have used Mathematica on a Raspberry Pi computer to generate a full set of magnifier design tables, including L, C and coupling values for up to 8 stages! You can use a modified Joule Thief design back-wired to the source power supply through a bounce capacitor, then pass that impulse to the extra coil, or even replace the extra coil with a network of small capacitors and isolation transformers.
