God, what a voice that woman has in the beginning! I had to turn down the volume for a moment.

I don’t know how I could persuade myself to get out of my car and run into a ditch when there’s a tornado outside. I’ve been caught in a few and the car always seems the safest

Jim lay sheltering in the ditch, relaxing in the relative peace it offered whilst watching his wife, inside the SUV, disappear into the tornado's funnel.
"Pity, " he said as a tear formed in his eye, " That was a damn good car."

Jim says "shut the hell up or get out and learn to fly!!"

Unfortunately most ditches along the highway are quite shallow and you can't get low enough. You are exposing your body to all kinds of flying debris, hail, lightning. Also with the torrential rain in the parent storm, ditches can quickly flood, and if debris is over top of you you will drown. Or live power lines knocked down from the tornado hit the water and you are now a crispy critter. I'd rather try my best to outrun the tornado or, worst case scenario, keep your seat belt on, duck down as low as you can get and cover your head. Full proof? By no means but both options are equally terrible. But do not EVER take shelter under or park under an overpass.

Riddle me this: Cars aren't safe because they will blow and roll, but you're safe in a ditch, next to the highway, as if the cars won't roll over you? Why don't they just advise you to pull over into the ditch. It minimizes the surface area of the car, plus you're still surrounded by a metal box.

Last spring I was in two tornadoes within 10 minutes in my car. I knew it was the wrong thing to do but I kept running. I was afraid to get in a ditch. I wanted to get home to protect my pets. When your in the moment and it's the real thing, your adrenaline is in full gear. You are feeling a fear you have never felt before and it goes against everything to stop trying to get away. The only logic I saw the time, was if I stopped and got into a ditch, it could possibly come over me and pick me up into it. I'm not saying what I did was right, I did the dumb thing and am lucky to be alive. What I am saying is it will be scary as hell, and you will NOT want to stop and get out of your car, it will feel like you are signing your death wish, but fight the urge to run and take cover. I only got away by chance not by speed or determination

I dont understand. There have been tornadoes that rip concrete right up from the ground and your saying i should leave the shelter of ny vehicle and completely expose myself to the elements?? Im sorry. If i was in a tornado i would drive into a ditch. Lean my seat as far back as possible, fasten my seat belt nice and tight and prepare to change my underwear because that absolutely crazy. I would rather chance getting shooken up or a few broken bones then to completely expose myself to the elements.

When you see a tonado forming you still have a chance to get out with a car.. just go the opposite way..

They all tell us to "lay flat" in a ditch, when there are no ditches deep enough to hide in. You're screwed hiding in a car because it can be picked up, and screwed laying flat in the "ditch" because of all the debris that WILL hit you. Better off racing the tornado and going off-road if need be.

Lol 0:25 he says that they had to run for their Lifes driving every which way to avoid the tornado. 0:34 The woman is yelling "Turn around! Go! Turn around! it doesn't seems like they had to drive every which way to avoid the tornado. It sounds like a crazy woman  yelling at a tornado "Turn around!" Like if she yelled the tornado would turn away

I’m sorry but any tornado will suck you right up from a ditch 😂 this is comical

just wondering wouldn’t the wind speeds still be strong enough to pick you up from the ditch or if the tornado is over you wouldn’t the spinning vortex pick you up?

word of advice.  These people were correct but for gods sake don't go into the ditch this close to your car.  It could get pushed off the road and land on you..

Getting into a ditch could be your last ditch if your vehicle lands on top of you. Life is full of probabilities.
