Wouldn't your life be magical if you could exercise the self control you intend? Your body would be ripped, your bank account always in the black, you'd always floss, eat right, and get up on time. You'd never be plagued by depression, anger, or anxiety, because you'd will your emotions into compliance.

Self control is the building block of all discipline, the cornerstone of achieving any success. Our mind comprehends our reality as two worlds, the outer world of objects, situations, and people around us; and the inner world of our emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. Humans naturally seek solutions to their problems via the outer world, instead of within themselves. The secret to self-control is to change the paradigm. Instead of portraying ourselves as victims who are acted upon by outside forces, we need to be the creators of our situations and success -- a creator mentality, rather than a victim mentality.

As with instilling any habit, exercising self control requires persistence. Imposing discipline strengthens the pre-frontal cortex's impulse control; while giving in to brain-sapping vegetative stimulation such as TV and internet weakens it.

To improve your self control, own your control via your inner world, rather than blaming outside forces. Unhook from outside stimulation, because you're not in control when you're letting your brain be occupied the lazy way. Instead, read and introspect your way to self control.

Somebody once said "we can't control the winds but we can adjust our sails" which basically means we can't change what happened, but we can change our reaction to it. Outside stuff doesn't make us happy or mad, *we* make *ourselves* happy and mad. *We* give situations labels. You might not be the wealthiest dude alive, but that fact has no connotation until you give it one. You can say "dang it i wish i was rich" and give that fact a negative connotation. Or you can say "well at least i get by with the money i have" and give that same fact, a better connotation. It's all in our minds. And it takes time, energy and control to change the connotations we give to facts in our lives.

To Build Self-Control: @ 16:50

1. Discipline your intentions and take action == trains your Self-Control.
a. If you have intentions to brush teeth twice a day -- do that
b. If you have intentions to work out -- do that
c. If you have intentions to journal -- do that
2. Disconnect from media == break the bad habit of Self-Control sapping media.

Well the two main arguments are:
1.Get self control by following through on disciplinary tasks; in other words, get self control by having self control.
(This is very circular but I get it)
2. Unplug (This is great advice, but it does seem strange to recommend an Email service after it. )

I am extremely emotional, I am trying to improve my self control and it defiantly got worse before it got better, not too sure how to stop being an emotional egg. It doesn't really help that I'm Bipolar.

Leo, I'm not sure how to say this but....you've planted a lot of healthy seeds of reality that sprout the truth. I do my best to remain unbiased and objective (like the scientist with the chimps...lol) and it helps keep me grounded. I am currently struggling in certain areas of my life on a personal level and your videos aren't magic pills or quick overnight remedies. ..they are more (to me at least) food for thought. I listen to these daily, sometimes 2-3 in a row or I'll just throw on a play list as I clean the house, or get ready for work etc. I find that as I reprogram my subconscious and have your insight constantly playing in the background I naturally pick up on the BIG picture. So thank you for the paradigm shift assistance. I tell my buddies about self actualization and basically raising your conscious level and the chain reaction of events recently have been superior. I no longer want to live small, as of today I choose to Live BIG!
