Thanks for the tips man! I finally defeated my friends and drove a 36.734! (Yesterday I did a 37.924!) I really improved my racing line and braking points.. braking much deeper than before.

These tips are pretty good, but a very common mistake in rental karts is that people tend to brake too much. You really need to keep up the momentum in rental karts in order to be fast as they have very little power.

What this means is that you often only need to brake in order to get the kart turning as turning the kart will already scrub off enough speed. At an indoor karting track near me there are more than 20 corners but you only have to touch the brakes at 3 of them if you take the right lines.

The thing I've found is that since karts have no front brakes, you maintain a lot of front end grip even under braking. You can use this change in grip balance to your advantage to get the kart to rotate into tighter turns

This really helped, I went karting at the Yas Marina Kartzone and beat my PB of 56.3 to a solid 53.3

i think the hairpin example was actually too much braking applied which made the gokart drift thus loosing much more speed and overheating the tires. Best would be to break hard in a straight line, start releasing the break when turning the wheel in and then releasing the break pedal around the apex to be able to accelerate flat out from apex on.
Technique shown in the video will work only on extremely tight and narrow corners where you have to rotate the gokart ASAP and start accelerating.
Overall though very useful video - one of the major points is that knowing the track will help one gain the breaking advantage

Subscribed without hesitation.

Very concise and informative channel.

Keep up the good work.

The hardest part is trying to start braking correctly when you're closely following another car. That will make harder to see your reference marker and if the car if front of you has totally different braking style, you'll have problems trying to keep your own breaking point. In addition, the leading car can drive defensively and brake "too much" but use their car to block your overtake line.

remember to adjust your braking technique to how much power your kart makes. low power carts will be faster with softer braking and wider turns - by starting on the outside of a turn, touching the apex, and ending up on the outside again. you want to carry as much cornering speed as possible because you can't accelerate as fast. as for high power carts, you can take a more V shaped line where you brake hard very late, oversteer to get your kart pointed at the exit, then tearing off again.

Thanks for the tips! Can you describe how to overtake someone with similar pace on an indoor (narrow) track?

In the first hairpin turn shown in this video, it appears he is braking and turning into the right hairpin at the same time. You can also see this results in the rear end rotating and the driver applying opposite steering lock.
I always thought hard braking is best done in a straight line just before turning in towards the apex and the brake pedal is released gradually once steering wheel is turned towards apex

Starting at 5:27, man you guys really abused those track limits and curb lmao! I'm sure that's the right line but it was so funny to see that you guys basically left the track altogether at those moments haha.

I don't know how much i learn from these videos other than confirmation that I'm doing the right things and maybe a few small refinements that i can try out.
They should be very helpful to newbs though.
I would say that you should add that most tracks only have 2 or 3 corners that actually require baking at all. At least that is my experience at over a dozen tracks nationwide (US) over the last 2 years.

To improve your breaking without video taping your race or having data to help a good way is too figure out what a full break will do at full speed and count how long it takes to stop and then try and use that as a reference for what the kart can do and then improve each corner until you are putting it on poll. Knowing what the kart can and can’t do will improve everything

When driving rental karts, ie slower 4 strokes, there are some corners where you may not even want to brake at all, and instead just get off the gas and let the kart coast in, keeping the momentum up through the corner.

I usually brake hard, locking a bit the rear wheels but not spinning, and then realeasing the brake pedal smoothly. I think it's the fastest way to slow down the go kart, isn't it?

watched a couple vids from you, applied cornering guide into my driving, gained 2 secs on the third lap. from 37.868 to 35.675, next time i’m going to practice braking

i love the work that you do and put in videos. i learn so much things from this that im sure i will do better next time i will go karting. Thanks very much for those videos. i Subscribed right when i saw your channel and content you do. I have one question: is drifting around corners actually making me faster? i want to have best time possible to beat my last record.

Lando norris once said that for best breaking u should always have some throttle applied so your breaks dont lock up, thus carrying even more speed but holding that grip and instant response in power once u let go of the gas.

I got invited to a birthday party at a Go Kart track and I saw a few shorts before... Never rode a Go Kart, trying to remember all this XD
Maybe I'll beat my friends with a bit of luck
