Nowadays, being a not-so-skilled artist is kind of a blessing because it prevents me from being accused of "stealing" using AI-generated art. When you are too pro, people start doubting your skill due to the existence of AI-generated art.

Rin could talk about anything and I’d listen. Her humour and her accent combined is a blessing

I think there's a difference in tracing art, versus tracing references. I'm an artist but I refuse to trace someone's artwork, but I trace models and other references for my work. I am a printmaker so I combine multiple things together to create a unique piece and tracing helps me do it quicker. I took multiple drawing classes so I can draw and not all elements are traced. Just my thoughts :)

Sometimes I will trace over a photo of a reference model, however, it’s merely for practice and to mostly understand certain poses and mostly weird hand angles. I don’t know why this person couldn’t have just come clean about it in the first place??💀😭

I dont have an issue with tracing as long as its not someone elses orginal art. I do have an issue with ai art though

I think it's fair to blame them, it's understandable to trace when Ai art looks so good but my god it's so easy to admit it, especially when the skills are clearly there, doubling down made them look like a prick on his high horse.

100% agree with your opinion on this. it's so frustrating when i see people post art that is clearly traced off a pinterest photo, without showing the original or even mentioning that it's traced, and then people comment stuff like "omg that pose/composition/idea is so good" and the artist is like "thank you" :))) and they take the credit for something they didn't actually do themselves. you don't have to create everything from scratch without any help but please at least be transparent about it...

Artists not being dramatic? Are you kidding me? Artists are the most dramatic people I know, and I say that as one. Because while we're quiet and usually non confrontational, we'll return home and proceed to create the saddest character with the most traumatic background ever: abandoned by their parents and raised by a sweet, kind wolf, who was then brutally murdered by a mad man and Mc lost an eye and 3 toes trying to get revenge, but eventually dies tragically. And if the character happens to resemble the very person who pissed off the artist? Coincidence ofc.

Agreed, the act of tracing is not bad, that is how I started in art, it really does help. Now just looking at an art style especially manga I can imitate it. what’s BAD about it is not disclosing it was traced and relaying on it too much.

I kinda feel for this artist. When I was young and at the point that most people probably learn their artistic skills, I got really into a small community where you'd take the same line art and color/edit and add things to it. So I got really good at color theory, patterns, and editing on a base (copying shading styles etc). Still, to this day, I cannot just draw out a scene or person. But god damn can I color some pre-made art. I can't help but wonder if this person got stuck in a similar cycle, where their color work has outpaced their actual drawing ability and so they ended up tracing others' base work.

The fact that they would’ve not gotten caught if they just generated their own AI art then traced it

I like it when people are shatting on AI, but if you're just gonna trace it you wouldn't grow as an artist. It's like stealing a plant from a forest and convince people that you grew it

Personally, compared to tracing other's art, using this to help you get a better understanding of drawing is a bit better than just. Passing the AI off as yours.

I'm so glad she has a YouTube account because I was listening to her talk and I was thinking "damn I could listen to this forever"

holy crap they could at least have admitted to it! AI pictures have no copyright as far as I'm concerned. You're pretty much free to use it but don't lie you didn't trace it!

also the fact that you have actual captions available instead of youtube's silly auto generated ones is a BLESSING. thank you sm. so many commentary youtubers dont take the time to help their HoH audiences like that

there was more art that me and my friend noticed wherein they copied/traced before and it’s krazy how they didn’t stop. they probs thought they wouldn’t be caught. also they were exposed before and i liked the post of that exposure tweet and lmao they blocked me after even if i don’t even follow them. that’s when i realised they’re guilty fr

When I need to make initial character designs for my comic quickly, I usually will trace an irl persons pose so I know how I should draw them in the future, it’s made it easier for me to understand what an actually persons body type is supposed to look like without having to go through looking for a perfect revenge of their intended body type.
