Some people said it isn't but it was like a person (?) Idk how to explain it
edit: erm what the flip how did this get alot of views i just kade this video to like ask😭😭
I just figured out that this is called mapping+?( I think its mentioned on one of the comments actually nvm I'm not sure anymore I'm getting confused, also I'm not doing these anymore I'm just gonna make my own pose and use reference
Not that this has anything to do with the video, but please pin this, so everyone can see. Every hour hundreds of animals such as dogs and cats, are being abused and attacked, I think this is very cruel and rude to the animals involved in this situation, We need to stop this problem now because if animals die the world would be destroyed in a matter of seconds. If you can donate to the places that helps animals, if you can't then please copy this text and spread the message to a lot of shorts and YouTube videos, even if someone calls you a bot. Say you copied it, thank you very much.

No, this is just like using a reference for a pose! Its a very common practice. As long as you aren't directly tracing the line art, id say you're good

No not really that’s mapping what you did so no defo not tracing

As an art student, this trick is something my drawing professor told us to use! But I always recommend doing it with pictures of real people since other drawings may have anatomical issues (it can happen, even to the best artist), or the anatomy may be altered due to aesthetic reasons (see, for example, drawing the eyes bigger). You have to learn real anatomy rules first, and then you can bend them :)

This is useful for artists that doesn't know poses <3 i also do this

For me, no it isnt. It's just you referencing the pose and i would often use this "trick" whenever i dont know how to draw a pose

It’s not really tracing since you’re just getting the base of a body out of it, of course you have to credit the artists on the pose inspo, but other than that this isn’t tracing.

Note for beginner artists: Please study anatomy from real life examples before stylizing. It really helps.

Artist here, this is a form of tracing but isn't technically that bad since you're only tracing the pose and not really the character itself.

No, tracing would be copying line for line. You’re working out the structure of the character underneath, which is a great skill to have! :)

as an anti tracer who's been drawing for some time, i always suggest this to beginner artists ! its typically described as using a reference pose and can help learn basic shapes when drawing anatomy :) its quite useful imo !! ^^

I mean if you’re just tracing the basic shape then it’s fine since you’re using it for reference

i made this comment a year ago when i always traced references, just trace the basic shape and recreate that basic shape seperately

yes but the good kind of tracing. the kind that’s helpful.

Thought I should explain this (I feel like other people are getting this wrong)

So, yes this is tracing. But what is tracing? tracing is to follow or mark the course or position of something. (got this from the dictionary).

Now, is tracing necessarily a bad thing? No. Any artist (or any person) has traced, it's as simple as using a ruler to make a line.

As an artist, you should use tracing for:
- Understanding shapes
- Studying things (Anatomy, animals, etc.)
- Muscle memory
- General practice (e.g: shapes)

Why do others say it isn't tracing? people say that tracing is when you draw over someone's art and pretend it's yours.

(side note: I really recommend tracing over actual people to learn anatomy better.) (Also hope this made sense and helps anyone who needs it!!)

As long as your only drawing the basics. tracing a pose can help you learn, but don’t trace the full art piece. Also you would learn a lot faster if you traced a real person a few times, then tried to replicate it on a blank piece.

This isn’t tracing in the way we usually see on art theft, however, I’d not use this as a base for a finished drawing.
Tracing like this is actually a good practice, but this is just one step. Once you get the gist of the shapes, the next step would be to redraw them without tracing.

I’ll mention however, that professionals do use similar techniques on finished art generally for background. Let’s say a comic artist has to draw several panels with a complex cityscape, tracing photos or 3d models help cutting precious time in trying to figure perspective and shapes. People also use 3d models for posing characters and might even trace them, but I’m personally not much of a fan of this. Idk what others think on the subject (I myself don’t like much tracing for my work, though I have used it for general shapes of very complex background elements)

Not at all! Even I do that to help map out where certain limbs and stuff are when I draw them. Helps me visualize clearer :>

I dont really think its tracing but i would recommend drawing over it first and then going next to it and redrawing it without the art underneath, it'll help you get better at not needing to go over the reference at all and is great practice for anatomy and posing! ^°^

I mean if your just using the pic to get the pose I wouldn’t call it like “tracing”
