Don't Trace

Aight, you can trace to practice on your art/animation skill but NEVER claim that traced piece as your own work.

I think the moral story isn’t about just tracing. It’s about tracing other peoples art and then calling it yours. It’s like taking a picture of someones art on the street and selling it online. It’s not right.

The way the patreons are displayed is always so creative

I may get attacked for this but sometimes tracing is fine as long as it helps you draw better, in what way? Learning how sections of the drawing is done, type of shading they used, or to practice a pose. Of course do not submit the traced art *by any means*, but use what you've learned to draw your own original art (with references if needed too)

Why did I only now notice the Squidward nose on the blue figure at 0:47. Finally one of the greatest artists in history is getting recognized, and represented by an equally talented and artistic person.

So unpopular opinion time.

I traced for around 2 years. I desperately wanted to learn to draw but had a horrible time drawing lines in a way that looked right to me, if i used a rular my lines would be to ridged, if i used my hand i would shake too much and lose my line. I felt awful.

I started tracing as a way to teach myself how lines were supposed to look on their own and then see the entire drawing of several hundread lines whollistically make a picture. And doing this in repition, over and over again with different artists. Taught me how to draw lines effectively without tracing. It's really hard to describe effectively but its kind of like i remember how my hand felt when i was tracing. And the pencil didn't shake as much. Now i can draw without tracing, i have my own style which is to be fair kind of a style of borrowing technique from 7 or 8 artists and mashing them together to make my own thing.

I never posted my drawing on social media. And i never will because it's my thing that i want for myself i have no desire to share something that feels personal to me, i won't hang my art in my house because i want it to be for my eyes only. But, i disagree with people who say "tracing is bad" because it was legitimately the only way i could teach myself to draw proper lines.

I think if you steal peoples art. Trace over it and change it minutely then post it on the internet to pass it as your own. You are a jerk and thats not cool.

But in my opinion tracing can be a teaching method for people with dumb brains like me.

The sheer speed he drew that first one is impressive

"You traced because you can't draw and wanted attention.

I traced to improved my artwork so I can forge my own art style.

We are not the same."

As someone who doesn't trace art, I can't confirm this is true, though I'll contact my artist friends about it :)

As an owner of an art community, I've had a few cases where this was a problem. I generally just prohibit them access from posting art until they can prove to me that they can draw themselves, via call or live stream, and then I ask for a timelapse for every drawing they make up until a certain point

Everyone there always gets hella pissy about tracing when it happens (as they should), but I've found it's a lot better to treat it more like you'd treat an addiction - helping them get over it rather than just blocking them out. Seems to work out most of the time!

As someone who is an artist, I can confirm that we have the power to instantly teleport to any tracer's location for the sole purpose of violently beating them.

Edit:{God DAMN, I was not expecting this comment to blow up. Thx for the 1.9K likes everyone.}

when I draw I take a series of images of different characters, to then make a collage of the components of the latter to then trace a basic draft on which then once all the layers with the pieces of the characters have been removed I start to make some refinements and redo let's say the positions of the limbs by modifying their perspective. I'm still learning how the concept of perspective works so I use a lot of references to understand a little what the fuck I'm doing in drawing 😅

I love your videos and wish you the best 😊

You can say the animation budget increased from 0:43. But what can never be estimated in monetary value is the sheer self indulgent joy TArrow must have had in animating this part, given how emotionally loaded tracing is as a topic in the community.

As someone who's art was stolen back in middle school and I never got credited, the first bit was kinda relatable

God I wish this is how it turned out every time. Small artists get stolen from so often and it makes me so mad :/

I always love that the 6 dollar patrons have some role in the animations. This one especially is perfect

Tracing isn’t completely bad as long as you give FULL a credit to the artist, and dont post it online, without permission from the artist .
As long as it isn’t in a bad intention it can be okay
What is not okay is not giving credit, taking full credit, and making money off of it rather than the original
Tracing can be a great way to slowly learn how to draw a animal / human / item, and over time you can do it independently! :D
just give credits and get permission!!!!
