InPresence 0107: What is Profound?

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he expands on the concept of "entelechy" and raises the question of what would be a profound impact on your life. He also discusses Jean Houston's concept of "leaky margins" -- pointing out that, at one time, electricity was a very marginal subject that had little impact on human society. Subsequently it has become central to our way of life. He suggests that the same may well happen with parapsychology.

You may be the only person asking these questions in so many of our lives. Thank you, Dr. Mishlove!

I think of a profound change as one that shifts my understanding of what life is and what's possible. In my life, the recognition that life continues after death was one of those (it came about through a highly evidential after-death communication). When I understood that, I marveled that I ever could have accepted the material world at face value. Another shift was the sudden realization that I don't need anything, that I'm causing my own problems with my false belief in my inferiority to others.

A profound change is a change made out of the depths of one's soul.

The biggest block to profoundness is a chronic state of prejudice ...
Learning requires a certain amount of a state i call -suspended belief -( or the antithesis to the state of prejudice)
It just so happens that the natural progression over time is to a default of the former state i referred, for sometimes better but more often worse.

Your work is truly unique, and deeply fascinating as it exists along the same altitude/wavelength of my thinking and philosophy.
Well done.

The SAM experiment with Nathan Sanders has been profound definitely! I ask a question in my mind to our creator tune in so to say and turn on the radio. It’s not a magic 8 ball but this experiment has been profoundly loving. Also...A profound moment in my life happens daily; as no matter how much I learn it is a never ending quest that in the end I realize I know nothing really. Going back to natural living is the only sure bet for me. Even in science the experiment changes with the intentions expected. Life is a profound adventure if you can see the many gifts or blessings we all are given. If I believe I am a victim or victor it is what I am. That is a profound truth. Thanks Jeffrey, love you and your work. Is it the mind? Is it spirit? What the heck is knowledge anyway? Sorry for the lengthy comment :)

Jeffrey - When you discussed margins, I was thinking ego getting in the way (as in RV). I’d really like to hear your opinion on channelers, from the best work, Ra and the Law of One by, Rueckert, Elkins McCarty, to the daily YT posts from Human Ascension, higher self and countless others. There are so many contributors and sometimes the messages contradict what another has said. It boggles the mind.

I've read in that several people consider prophecies to be warnings of what might llikely be rather than what absolutely will be. Suppose we 'see' a curve of various probabilities of assorted potential future events or states (in the meaning attached to 'state' by physicists). It's up us to resolve the state that we will end up occupying, but it's more likely that we'll choose the most probable state. That fits in more with a quantum approach. I was discussing this with an astrologer friend. She and I both felt that astrologically implied future circumstances are analogous to a window to that set of events being opened more than it otherwise would be. The odds are increased but they are not 100%. The approach is similar to some quantum concepts.

I’ve been in charge of all things computer, IT & IS, at a medium sized company in 2000 for six years. I’ve done a lot of things and now I keep up the grounds of a large home in a resort area. Guess which I like best?

I pretty much don’t care about the status of a job, I want to keep eating but couldn’t fall in love with academia or any other job.

The computer job let me have the time and dollars to give my grandchild music lessons. That was important to me.

But I do have a deep purpose, it’s just not predicated upon earning a living. I believe we lead many lives although I have no such memories or proof. My deep purpose is to learn from my many mistakes and become the best person I can manage.

It’s gutsy of me to choose to be a woman at this time in history, if we really choose, because I often have trouble bridling my sharp tongue. I know Aristotle wasn’t talking to me when he said anything whether about ethics, Rhetoric or Entelechy.

I feel there is some purpose and benefit for all of us if each of us follows our heart.

It's easier for things to appear to be profound if you don't challenge them.

One 'leaky margin' that has worked its way into common language is the idea of 'ECCO' or 'synchronicity' which happened when John Lilly put it into my life more than three decades ago. When he mentioned ECCO I was shocked and thrilled: "HE KNOWS! He KNOWS about the Larger Domain, ( that was my name for the clearly evident purpose filled motor that had assumed authority in my life. But also there was a group of individuals that I felt were in the same drama in my thought, as it began to unfold after 1984. They seemed to talk to my thoughts and even generate new information.)
That has brought 'synchronicity' into the light of day, hasn't it, ? Even to this day but its not leaking, its reaching flood stage. .Some people pick up the voice of the zeitgeist for a time or forever it seems to me. By the way the definition of 'profound' that I understand is 'understanding ideas' not merely at the detail levels, such as being able to not only read but get information on a higher level as one lives ones life. I have a hunch my body is affected by words. I can spell every word in books like: One, Two Infinity by George Gamow and The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder or the bibles, but now I get new information (to me its new) from Stephan Hoeller's The Gnostic Jung and the Seven Sermons to the Dead with much better understanding. The idea of a natural process of individuation was somewhat linked to being 'mentally ill' or worse only 3 decades ago, in my world anyway. But 'the conversation' now includes what was hidden in books that few everyday people think about reading, like Jung especially. And your programs get listened to! The soul was hidden, its not really profound when it begins to 'speak'.
